Just a small amount over their food or something similar. Tomatoes are not poisonous to dogs that I know of. If my dog will not eat her food I put watered down ketchup on it and she eats it right up.

Tomato sauce is safe. Though it usually contains onion and garlic, both of which can be toxic, the amounts are small enough to be insignificant. You may see diarrhea, as with any human food a dog eats.

Tomatos are non-toxic and safe for dogs. However leaves, stems, and green fruits contain toxic chemicals. Make sure there are no flavors or onions in the sauce and you are good to go.

You can add a little to their kibble, about 1 tablespoon but I wouldn't give them a lot of it. Tomato sauce is acidic and too much can cause diarrhea.

Rice and plain tomato sauce would be gross.

No they are not safe for dogs!! Tomatoes (plant and fruit) contain tomatine, an alkaloid related to solanine. As the fruit ripens, the tomatine is metabolized. Therefore, ripe tomatoes are less likely to be problematic for animals. Clinical signs of poisoning include lethargy, drooling, difficulty breathing, colic, vomiting, diarrhea or constipation, widely-dilated pupils, paralysis, cardiac effects, central nervous system signs (e.g., ataxia, muscle weakness, tremors, seizures), resulting from cholinesterase inhibition, coma and death. (This information comes from veterinarians, and the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center.)

Check the ingredients:

If it has raisins, grapes, onion, or artificial sweeteners (xylitol, zorbitol etc) it could poison your dog.

A small amount won't hurt. If your dog isn't used to foods other than dog food, it may upset his stomach, but it won't last long.
