Hi, I'm fourteen years old and I have a huge passion for dogs and dog training. I love training dogs and I have done it before but not much of it. I want to find out if I am any good but I don't have a dog myself. (I have tested with Friend's dogs) I am very educated in dog training and behavior in general. So I was wondering if it would be a good and safe idea to host free dog training tips and examples at a local park? I was thinking I could post the date, time, where at and how long on craigslist in my area. I will NOT be charging people to do this. I want to do it. Do you think people would actually come? How would I arrange this at the park? Is it even LEGAL to arrange it in a local park? Thanks.

I love your passion & enthusiasm, however, I don't think a dog park is the best place to try to train a dog for the 1st time... there are too many distractions there. I do think advertising on craigslist would be a great idea though. Maybe put up a post offering free dog training. Ask people to reply with what kind of dog they have, how old it is & what they need help with. Then do reseach on the internet for specific instructions on how to train that particular dog (all dogs are different) reply to the people you think you can help & set up a time to meet. You have to be careful though because you can't trust strangers, make sure an adult is around whenever you plan to meet this person. Hope this helps & have fun! Also, I think volunteering at a pet shelter is a great idea & they always need help!

I'm glad that you have such a passion for dogs. If you are interested in dog training, I recommend that you research dog psychology. Setting up free training is not a good idea to test your skills. I'm glad you are educated, but this is not a safe idea. If you are not as good as you think, you can seriously mess up some dogs! Don't do this. It sounds like a very bad idea. I doubt very few people will come if they knew it was held by a 14 year old. You would have to contact the city to set this up, anyway. I don't know if they charge or not. Maybe volunteer at the local animal shelter. I'm sorry, but this sounds like a very bad idea.

Honestly I wouldn't engage in any public dog training without carrying liability insurance both for yourself and your clients, to cover you in the event of injury and to cover your behind in the event somebody else is hurt or something happens to one of the dogs while in your care. As far as legal, it's probably alright, but I really wouldn't get involved in formal training of any kind without carrying liability insurance, which you cannot do until you are 18.
