first you have to raise the puppy, that takes time and work. They need to be taken to see everyhting in the world you can think of . and everywhere, elevators, truck stops ,zoos downtown out inthe country , escallators, stores everywhere and everything, you can start with some agility stuff- tunnels etc. but puppys should not do jumps til older like over a year for good jumps etc. iIt is lots of hard work and you need patience. almost any dog can learn this stuff, but to compete you need a dog with high energy that means taking it out everyday rain shine snow wind , hail etc. for long walks lots of chasing balls and running . any dog can learn this. go to some agillity club sites and see all the different dogs that can do it. In my agility classes I have shelties, daschunds, dobemans terriers, poodles etc and lots of small and largemixed breeds. All you need is the drive to keep working the dog everyday and keeping it fit and healthy. go to a local club for agility and ask when they are having a trial , go watch what they get the dogs to do. It is fun to see. goodluck

Many, many more jumps on an Agility course than Tunnels. For Agility you want a dog that LOVES to jump. Don't get a dog for the sport, esp as a first Agility dog. Get a dog breed that you would enjoy living with 24/7 & play Agility with that dog. All kinds of dogs enjoy Agility, purebreds & wonderful rescue mixed breeds alike. Find a dog that suits your personality & lifestyle.

Any dog of any breed or mix can train for agilty and run thru tunnels and stuff. You don't need a puppy either, a young adult dog or even an adult dog can learn just fine.
You don't get a dog for a sport, you get a dog you can live with. One that energy level works with your lifestyle.

My sister in law has had amazing success with training her Australian Shepherds to compete in obstacle courses. I also know from personal experience that terriers such as Jack Russels, Westies, and others are very intelligent and are natural tunnelers due to being bred to hunt mice. The best bet is to go for a working breed. They are very intelligent and high energy. They thrive on the fast pace of competing and do well with lots of mental and physical stimulating.

parson jack russell terriers are a pretty good breed for tunnels and even making tunnels. Not to mention they are fantastic hunters. However they are VERY active and the NEED to be walked around and be able to run. Freely. My dog digs tunnels to go through and captures possums, birds, rats, cats, and anything that catches her attention

A Jack Russell Terrier or a Border Collie. Both are highly intelligent dogs and are easily trained to follow instructions. Good luck.

My miniature Pinscher is amazing at learning tricks. He breezed through basic commands and we are now learning tricks. He has learned to sit on his butt and slide down my toddlers Fischer Price slide in her room. He also does an amazingly high jump for treats. He would most likely have no problem doing tunnels. And he is just a MinPin mix...a mutt, really. It depends on the dog. There are geniuses and dunces in every breed.

It depends how much time you would spend per day/week doing those activities. A collie is the most well known breed for agility. However, they are very energetic and need a lot of exercise. I suggest to research collie breeds and then decide if its the dog for you. They are like spaniels-full of energy!
Good luck!

Jack Russell terriers are smart, small and very spry. They'd work perfectly for you.

Aussies make fabulous agility dogs (Agility training is what you're asking about) - if you are looking for a new dog, consider adopting an adult. There are often dogs that would be great agility dogs up for adoption.

Any. You can train any dog to do those things. Siberian huskies are very intelligent and learn tricks very quickly.
