so my dog is a cocker spaniel mix. she has the height of a cocker spaniel. so she's tall-ish (well, tall for a medium sized dog). we are looking to adopt another dog, but my dog has issues with dogs significantly bigger than her...basically, they freak her out. we found this dog that is an 8 month old pointer mix that we want to adopt. right now, she is slightly taller than my dog and that is fine, but will she get significantly bigger? if possible, can you compare her to other, more common breeds? maybe golden retrievers, labs, pitbulls, boxers, border collies...where do pointers fall in? (sorry, i know there are many kinds of pointers, the shelter doesn't have super specific details about her...she looks like a german shorthaired pointer...but i've only ever seen those in pictures so i can't gauge the size).

A purebred Pointer is about 25 - 27 inches at the shoulder (males are usually taller). A purebred german shorthaired pointer is about 23 - 25 inches tall and about 55 - 65 pounds. My neighbor has a male GSP who is about the size of a lab, but with a slimmer body type.

I have a rescue pointer mix who is about the size of a border collie, 20" at the shoulder and slim.

German SH Pointer: 55 to 70 pounds and 23 to 25 inches tall

Cocker Spaniel: Weight: 15 - 30 pounds and 13 ½ inches to 15 ½ inches tall

If she takes after the pointer, HUGE difference in size. But no way of knowing how a mix will end up.

Los Angeles dog rehabilitation center (this is the one run by Cesar Millan who is on a TV show).

There are many other excellent rehab places in LA and surrounding areas and it is wise to consult the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behaviour (AVSAB) before sending your dog anywhere. They recommend only kind methods for training and rehabilitation

Many dog professionals used to use the 'dominance' methods 20 years ago but have now discarded them in favor of more humane ways.

breed standard is 2\3-28 inches tall, so quite a bit bigger than you cocker.
