We're going out with our nearly 3-month old bear-type Chow Chow tomorrow.

1. Is she ok to be leashed (at her age)?

2. How do Chow Chows react with a new environment (since we're going out with her tomorrow) and with strangers?

THANKS A LOT IN ADVANCE! =)

Your puppy is 3 months old and has not been trained for a leash and collar nor been out in public??? Most responsible breeders have their puppies accustomed to leashes by the time they go home at 8 weeks. Your puppy should have been getting out and getting socialization daily for the last month, at least. A Chow of questionable breeding (since there is no such thing as a 'bear type' Chow-- read the AKC standard) that has not been leash trained and has not been socialized is a hazard waiting to happen. Please get this puppy enrolled in some puppy training classes right away so you can learn how to properly train, socialize and handle your pet before you get into trouble with her.

If you 'breed dogs and know such basics' why has this dog not had the training and socialization she needs? That is BEYOND BASIC KNOWLEDGE for anyone that breeds a dog....

As long as she has had all her vaccinations this is fine. However, don't just take her out without getting her used to walking on a collar and lead first. Once she has happily and freely walking alongside you THEN you can take her out into the big wide world. In the meantime, the more new experiences she sees the better, introduce her to friends and family and NICE doggy minded people so she can become well socialised. Also gently introduce her to new sights and sounds, different FRIENDLY dogs. and other animals, while she is under careful control.

If you have to go out tomorroe and she is not yet lead trained, it would be better to carry her until she is.

Enjoy your puppy and good luck

Table scraps in very small quantities are ok. Increase feed as puppy grows. I feed my pups puppy food (with no soy) twice a day until they are almost 1 year old. It is kinda hard to overfeed a rapidly growing puppy. Once they are over 1 year old I scale back to once a day feeding in the evening.

There is only ONE type of Chow. A "Bear-Type" would be something you get from an unreputable backyard breeder. Show me in the AKC standard where it lists two types of Chows!

Your dog should NOT go out into public until she's had her complete set of vaccinations.

Yes its good to get her used to the leash as soon as possible.

She will probably be a bit nervous but don't worry she needs as much socialisation as possible places. people, cars noises etc etc. etc.

The more you can do at this age the more balanced she will be when she matures. You only have a small time window for socialisation

It's never too early to start teaching your dog leash manners. Be patient and good luck! I think all dogs react differently to strangers, but try to make it a positive experience.

i took my chows every where with me as soon as they had their shots. they were very people friendly. you have to correct if they try to act mean.

if you have problems make sure they have a lot of training and positive reinforcement.

good luck.

Yes its great to get her out in the real world. Just take it slow, you don't want her to get stressed over allot of new things the first time out.

A puppy training class is a great way to socialize her in a controlled environment.

Have fun

There's NO SUCH THING as"bear-type"!!!!

There's ONLY *quality* or CRAP!

Since you've gotten the thing from an OBVIOUSLY ignorant lying puppymiller, guess which category it's in.

ALL dogs must safely collared & leashed !

ALL pups must be TRAINED!!!

SMOOTH OR ROUGH COATED,F'R KRISSAKE!!!!!
