So I guess what I mean is when are they at there fullest?

What age?

My little guy is 8 months and has a beautiful coat, but I hope it will come in more.

I know all about the pomeranian uglies, because I have gone through that P:

He also seems to have a chunk of puppy fur on either side of his head under his ears that have not fallen out... what's up with this?

Thank you ALL for your help :)

Hello. The "tuffs" behind his ears are what I lovingly call wings. Most poms have them. However, if the pom is red, orange, or a sable they seem to be more apparent because they are often a little lighter in color. Since you have been through the uglies before, I assume you have owned a pom before him. Therefore, you are more than likely aware that they tend to get hair mats behind their ears. The "wings" are actually what is matting. Just love those wings....they give each puppy character. (lol) As far as the full coat goes, most poms have thier full coat by 12 months of age. However, when they blow their coat for the first time (after he has recovered from the "uglies"), there is a chance he will grow back a thicker coat for winter than he had before. This coat, if it does thicken (usually at about 1.5 - 2 yrs) will be his "full" coat. Hope this was helpful. Give your pup a kiss from a fellow pom lover.

Pomeranians have two coats of hair, an undercoat and a top coat. The undercoat is soft, thick and fluffy. The Pom's overcoat is long, and straight. Pomeranians go through a period which is called "puppies uglies", this stage happens betweeen the ages of five to 6 months. During this time, your pet is going through it's "adolescence". This is a naturally occuring event and is nothing to be alarmed about. When your Pomeranian reaches the approximate age of eight to ten months, it will have grown a beautiful new coat. At the one year mark, Pomeranians have the shed of their first adult coat. Once your dog is an adult the details of the shedding process are vastly different, depending if you have a male or a female Pom.

Males: Once reaching 18 months of age, a male Pom's coat will stay relatively the same for it's life.

By the time he is around 1 1/2 years old to 2 years old he should have a really full coat/massive coat!!

Make sure to keep behind the ears brushed out or it becomes matted very easily!

They should have a really thick coat around the head... All of my dogs have a lot of coat around their head.

Their coat doesn't stop growing there is always maintenance to do on the coat! They are a lot of grooming.

he should be coming out of his uglies. Full coat could take up to age of 2 to fully come in. My pom never lost those soft tuffs around his ears, so I think they stay

uumm probably around age 3. btw the whole fur and ears thing is normal, my dog has it too, and i would suggest that you maintain that hair so that it wont become matted or anything because its VERY easy for it to become tangled, and when that happens ur only two options is to try to comb through which hurts really bad for the dog, or just cut it ( easiest solution)
