I have a chihuahua/toy poodle mix that my mother rescued.
I'm nursing it back to health, and today we decided to keep him.
I know different breeds of dogs have different training difficulties, how fast they learn. and so forth.
I'm about to search some on my own, but I thought if any owners of these breeds, toy dogs, or the like could give me any tips.

I have two other dogs that are trained well, but my father trained them and only one listens to me (the other started getting trained when it was older)
What age should I start training him?
He's roughly 4-4.5 weeks old (I don't need any criticizing about his age please! I've seen experts and they've praised me for how i've taken care of him so far)

Thanks :)

WTG on rescuing the tiny fellow! At this age, don't worry so much about training, just nurturing and socializing him. The more you can keep him with you the better. Be careful about exposing him to other dogs or puppies unless you are completely sure about the other dog's vaccination status. You don't want him to pick up any nasty bugs at his tender age.

Try to expose him to different people, places and things, but always in a manner that leaves him no room to doubt that he is safe and secure. Don't try to do too much too fast. Just work on building his confidence and showing him the world is a friendly exciting place, not big and scary, and that you are his protector and Giver of All Things Good.

You can also catch him doing behaviors you will want him to do on command later and naming and praising those behaviors when they naturally occur. For instance when he goes to sit, say “Sit (Puppy’s Name), Good Sit!” or “Down (Puppy’s Name), Good Down!”

When he is about 12 weeks old you can start luring him to do these behaviors on command.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://bitly.im/aMcmg

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.
