ivomec is commonly given to dogs to treat demodex (a type of mange.) dogs that are on ivomec do not need to be given their regular prevention. ivomec is also the main ingredient in heartgard. but as stated above a preventive such as heartgard or iverhart will be easiest.

Just get a heartworm prevention, such as Interceptor or Sentinel from your veterinarian. Get your dog tested for heartworms once a year, because no heartworm prevention is 100% so they need to be checked. It is much cheaper to prevent heartworm than it is to treat it.
