Every dog deserves a good permanent home, but I'd never buy from a situation like this. It's not necessarily a 'scam' but you must proceed with caution. I'm worried that they are looking for that kind of money - a good home, under the circumstances (moving and can't keep it ... not good enough!) should always be the first concern, not money. circumstances do change, but when this happens, the dog(s) involved should always go back to their breeder, if possible. Or at least the breeder should be involved in any rehoming necessary.

Alarm bells are ringing for me. If you want a nice puppy, contact a reputable breeder via the Breed Club. People will tell you anything to get rid of a dog who has become surplus to requirements.

How do you know the dog is even their's to sell!!??

When you buy anything from an ad, you have to watch your back and do your research.

Do not send a deposit and only view ads that are in your travel radius. If you find an ad that interest, call and make an appointment to see the pups. Somebody scamming is not going to want a visit from you.

I know at least 3 people that have purchased puppies from E-bay classifieds. They all lived within 50 miles of the poster.

There are some sellers on E-bay that will not ship puppies. Those sellers want to meet the potential buyer for a suitable home.

It works both ways. Just be careful.

I wouldn't, because a) could likely be a scam and b) its a backyard breeder. Which means no health testing for genetic issues, they likely haven't bred from temperamentally sound dogs, and they probably have no idea about how to properly socialise a puppy.

If you are wanting an older (or younger) rescue dog or mixed breed, go to a shelter or rescue :) if you are wanting a purebred, contact reputable breeders registered with your local kennel club (AKC) and your local breed club (e.g., Pekingese club of California http://www.apps.akc.org/apps/club_search/index_master.cfm?club_id=2085).
