The Alaskan Klee Kai is a small miniature husky weighing 5-25 lbs with a distinctive mask. They come in three sizes, toy, mini, and standard, and in 4 different colors, black & white, red & white, pure white, and gray & white. Their eye coloring is partly why they are mistaken for small Siberian huskies. They can be brown, blue, brown and blue, or a mix of those. In the red dogs there is also a green variation. They are currently registered with the American Rare Breed Association and the United Kennel Club.
They were developed by Linda Spurlin over thirty years ago. The idea came from an accidental breeding of an Alaskan Husky (a mix breed dog made for sled racing) and another small dog that a friend of hers owned. So worked meticulously developing her lines over the next 20 years to have a dog that was no longer a crossbreed mix but a true breed.
There is a breeder who sells "mini sibs" but those are something completely different. Siberians that have been breed down using only the smallest dogs from the breed.
Alaskan Klee Kai are very much a different breed from the Siberians in everything but looks.
