What kind of brush do I use on this kind of dog?

She is a mutt (obnviously) and I have so far tried 3 types of brushes and none of them really "work" on her. I have tried the ones below...does anyone know what type of brush would work?

We think she is a border collie, lab, corgi mix. (that is a border laborgie right ? LOL :-)

Ok this one just pulls and hurts her..http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2752787

THis one the soft side rides right over her fur and the pins work for her back but her tail and butt is so thick it does not really get through it.

And this is what her fur looks like: (she is the black and white one)

Thank you for any suggestions.

I would recommend like the metal on the second brush

For the thicker fur you need to use a technique called back brushing which is

You start a a point and brush a narrow strip of fur in the opposite direction as the way the fur is growing then you brush the next 1/2 inch of fur beyond the part to the direction you just brushed the previous clump

You may also want ot try a shedding comb.

Well, you're using the wrong types of brushes.

The first one is for de-shedding, the second one is for the basic-type of coats. Your dog has a thicker coat, thus you'll need a comb-like brush, rather than a bristled brush, or a thin-pin brush.

I suggest an undercoat rake, its great for dogs with thick, dense, double coats, or a porcupine brush. Here is a website with comprehensive information on coat-types and proper brushes to use:

http://www.dog-supplies-advisor.com/dog-brushes.html

And here is a website which sells and ships specific grooming tools:

Would you happen to have a better pic of your dog?

ETA> Thanks for the better photos, I'd say she's a border collie x spaniel cross. You'll definitely want to use a rake on that coat, followed with a metal comb.

I recommended the FURminator to many of my friends, and we are all thrilled with the results. My daughter has severe allergies, and now she can be around my golden retrievers.

The most wonderful thing happened after just one treatment----NO MORE HAIR---- I was using my swiffer to pick up hair two times a day NO MORE. Nice to buy something that does what it says it will do.

The FURminator should come included when one gets a puppy or kitten....hahaha.
just an opinion

I would use just a regular comb to get the tangles out of her longer hair, and then I would follow up with the slicker brush; maybe you should try brushing more gently. I use it on my Brittany for just everyday brushing and I've never had a problem with it pulling or hurting him.

My personal preference for serious hair-care is a stripping comb, but if you don't want to trim down her hair at all or pull out the undercoat this might not be the best option. If using several different brushes on different parts of her body works for you, then that's just fine.

Here's a link that shows you the stripping comb that I use. They're a little pricey, but I love mine.

Good luck!

I agree with getting a furminator. The pin brushes work on my borders...so I don't know why they won't work for her, maybe try a better one. The furminator is great though. It helps to make them not shed. i swear by it no joke.

oh and I love the name Border laborgie hahhaa. Great and fun mix.

Furminator. (sp?) It is a bit costly but it gets to the under coat and all

the dead fur. Works superiorly on Labradors and other dogs with the kind of coat your dog has.

i would say a wired brush..with realy long pins so it can dig into the fur :)
