If its ringworm you will need an antifungal med. You should really get a skin scrape done at the vet and have proper meds dispensed to you. Ring worm is contagious to people!!! So before you get it I would suggest taking proper steps and go to the vet!! Its going to cost more if you don't get it done and your house is contaminated with the fungus

For starters, ringworm isn't actually worms. It is a fungal infection that takes the shape of a redish ring. The rings, dependant on how long they've been there can be anywhere from the size of a dime, to that of a half dollar. They are typically very symetric and make near perfect circles. The rings will usually have a white "flakey" texture. This is a fungus. Anti-fungal creams, athletes' foot spray, and powder are all semi-effective, but I don't know how a dog will react to those. A product called "witchhazel" is more natural, and fairly effective. It's alcohol based and less harsh than the sprays. You can get it at any grocery store. Ringworm is very contagious, and even more expensive to treat on humans. Prescrition anti-fungal creams are pricey, the doctors' visit to get them cost more, and if severe enough, oral meds can be prescribed to rid the nasty fungi. Keep the kids away from Spot if you don't want to make doctor visits, and try what you can afford.

If you cannot go to the vet within a reasonable amount of time, go to your local pharmacy or Walmart and buy an over-the-counter anti-fungal cream: use it according to the label directions. If it IS ringworm, the cream will help stop the itching, which should also halt the spread caused by your dog itching/licking the area. Be careful- it IS contagious to humans and any other animal that comes in contact with it. Wash your hands thoroughly every single time you touch your dog. Ringworm glows when seen in black light, by the way- it is a quick way to find out if that is what you are dealing with or not.

I had the worse case of ringworm I bought some cream from Whole foods for around $5.00 it worked so well I found a website online that sold it & told my story in hopes to help others. After a month of going to the doctor with no results this cream cured it in 3 days. Here is the link

You need to find the money for the vet. You took on the responsibilty of owning a pet and should have thought of the cost before hand. Your pet should not suffer because you were irresponsible.

Sorry if you think I am too blunt but this is the hard core truth. People want to own pets and than they don't take care of them properly, and that is horrible.

If it means you don't eat... so be it, your problem not the dogs.

First, iodine does not kill them. Secondly, ringworm is difficult to diagnose so you don't even know if that's what your dog has or if he has one of the many skin diseases that look like ringworm.

Since he has 5 infected areas, if it is ringworm it's a pretty serious infection and he needs to see the vet because serious infections require the use of a prescription antifungal drug which needs to be monitored to the vet because of serious potential side effects.

Whenever uwing handeling thoe dog, use vinyl gloves, NOT LATEX!!!!!!!! Then get yourself some cleaning wipes for dogs and make sure that you use a cloth to wipe it off so te dog don't digest it. Bottom Line, your dog neds help. See if there isa plae you can take your dog t that can help. I don't know where you live so tru calling the vets office and describing what it is and maybbe some medicine they can sell you without bringing the dog in, it is highly unlikely but it cannot hurt to assk. Also maybe they or the pet stores can recomemd someplace that will see your dogs without charge, Is the ASPCA near you??? Call, Call, Call, Until you get help. Please.

just to clarify,,,ringworms are not worms,,its in the class of fungai. when this happend to my cats( my place is to small for a dog) i was concerned,,a vet visit wasnt as disasterous as i thought. after the blacklight test confirmed ringworm,,treatment was simple. the vet used "program" (flea treatments) and since program works from the inside out,,,the whole animal was treated,,,not just spots. call your vet and ask them for some over the phone advice,,,they will work with you.

Just use the iodine I have done that to my dogs for years. You just put it on twice a day and keep it on there till they are gone. When you get the money go to the vet and get some wormer just to be safe. You don't want to be touching your dog until the ring worms are gone.

dogs are like people when it comes to meds. if its a rash you can use the iodine it will not hurt the dog if he acts like it bothers him you can give him 2 tablespoons of benadryle. i home reamidy my dog just like he is one of my kids, only because i have no money to take him to the vet all the time either you can get infromation from the library or pet stores. as long as you are cautious and watch the dog carefully and dont hessatate if you think its serious you need to suck it up and take him to he doctor.

You need to find the money for the vet. That is part of owning a dog.

The only way for certain to know if it's truly ringworm is to have it checked.

Here is a website where people offer several different alternative treatments: http://www.earthclinic.com/Pets/ringworm.html

Good luck!
