My husband and I have been wanting to get a dog for a while now. He's had many dogs growing up, all of his family have dogs, all pitbulls or Chihuahuas. We have two kids a 6yr old and a 3yr old. We found a breeder that is selling pitbull puppies, they are still with their mother until they are 8weeks, they are currently 4 wks, the mother has already stopped nursing right before they turned 4wks. My husband wants to get two Puppies but I only want one to see how they do around my kids. My kids have been around pitbulls all their lifes and I know if trained properly they can be great dogs, my husband's aunt has one pitbull and she is the sweetest dog you could ever meet, she has never once growled or snapped on any child even if the kids are been annoying, but I cannot say the same for Chihuahuas they are mean little things. My question is, is it better to start with one or two Puppies? If so what can be a good argumentative point to make him change his mind since he is really set on two? Also I will be spending all day with the puppy giving all the attention needed. My main concern is my kids, they are great with dogs, they both are loving and very gentle. Please only educated answers and please show respect I'm seeking advice. Thank-you

"Also I will be spending all day with the puppy giving all the attention needed"

your the one taking care of it, put your foot down and tell him that 2 will be to much for you to handle and care for.

Get one now and a few years from now if you decide you want another, then discuss it, but for the time being, i'd only get 1.

Taking care of a puppy is just like having a toddler. They get into things they shouldn't and they can be a handful. With a 6 year old and a 3 year old in the house, I would definitely suggest only getting one puppy. I used to breed Chihuahuas and Dachshunds, and it gets really difficult when you have more than one puppy at once. I'd also recommend getting a pit bull as long as you get it from a good breeder. Chihuahuas aren't always the best dogs for kids. However, if pit bulls aren't bred right, they can have temperamental problems no matter how well you train them. Still, every pit bull I've ever met was very sweet and very good with kids.

You and your cousin are the very exceptional! You relatively have to get the pups to the vets as quickly as that you may. They are able to higher treat the pups than anyone right here. They are able to additionally inform you what breed they could also be and what to feed them and customarily how ancient they are. Get them to the vets at present good enough. Ok then you can give the pups with the runs some cooked fowl and rice for now. Provide about 1/2cup at a time, tons of unpolluted clear water. Feed the pups 3 occasions a day. You will have to most commonly keep the pups aside except you recognize why the one pup isn't feeling good. Do not go and get a wormer proper now in view that you do not know if that is the main issue or not.

No reputable breeder (of any breed) will sell two litter mates to the same home, nor would experienced dog people get two dogs at once. The reason is because they know how hard it is to housetrain 2 puppies at once, teach manners, basic obedience and correctly socialize. More than that, the puppies tend to bond to each other much more than to people. Then you have the problem of fights because of sibling rivalry.

One puppy, then another one when its an adult if you want another dog.

MY father was a dog breeder (not that it matters) but before he moved out I did learn one thing, and that was starting with one dog will give you a better idea on how to train a dog weather you know how to train one or not. As well with the fact that if you get two dogs and one of them become mean the other dog (Non-Mean) will be influenced by the mean one... in other words I suggest ONE dog to start with and see how it goes.

Trust me. With a 6 year old and a 3 year old, one puppy will be plenty. Once you have that puppy fully trained and house broken then consider another one.

I would say, it would be a good idea to start out with one, it's more important to take into consideration of how this will effect your family. and after being sure that things will work out well, get the second one.

Puppies are a handful. not to mention you have two kids that are young. puppies are like little kids. they pee everywhere and sometimes poop everywhere too.
