So yesturday my dogs back legs stopped working and I'm assuming some sort of disc in his body slipped. My parents don't have any money to take him to the vet or surgery but is this problem repairable, like can he heal overtime by sleeping or something. Please give me a good answer because I'm really worried and I love my dog so much, he makes me so happy. Thanks

Your parents could apply for CareCredit (if in the US) or work out payments with the vet to get this dog care - why don't you find out what vet this dog has seen in the past & make a phone call yourself to see what could be worked out to at least get the dog evaluated

sometimes an injury like that can heal... but it requires proper stabilization, without the stabilization, the injury could heal wrong & have life-long effects

and, picking up the dog & carrying it could make this even worse. The dog needs to be crated, then move the crate instead of the dog.

This dog will need help to get to water, food, and a place to potty

I can think of 4 doxies off the top of my head that developed the kind of problem you are talking about. 1 has a wheelcart, 2 had successful surgeries, and 1 healed without surgery

Well, I, for on, am not going to criticize you. I have no reason to do so and I felt that reason, I would just ignore your question. I hate when people get on someone's cas and jump down their throat. Anyway, that being said, I had a lab who did the same thing. She just couldn't get up anymore and would drag herself to the carpet where she could finally stand up and walk. She had severe Hip Dysplasia most of her life. Then the sad day came when she could not longer stand up and walk, even on the carpet, without her back legs collapsing. I made the sad and horrible decision that many pet owners eventually have to face. I had to have her put to sleep. That was over 3 years ago, and I still miss her. I'm not saying that you should put your dog down. Please don't, , especially if the vet can give her something to take away her pain. Hopefully you won't have to make that decision and she doesn't have Hip Dysplasia, and I hate to say it, but it sounds like that could be her problem. Without having her legs X-Rayed, I can't really say if that's her problem. and I hope it is something that can be fixed with a simple pill or a shot. Good luck at the vet's office tomorrow. I hope your dog gets better soon.

Is there a possibility that there is a tick infestation:

these diseases can cause a very fast paralysis of the type you described:

1- tick paralasis

2- myastinia gravis

3- idiopathic polyreticuloneuritis

4- Botulism(rare in case of a toxic ingestion)

in case of a trauma could be a spine trauma

and lastly:

take hem to a vet

My dog"s back legs stopped working one time. She did start walking again about 2 days later. The vet said it was caused by sn injury to her back. We weren't aware of the injury. Hope your dog gets better. Really should see a vet though.

If you love your dog and want what is best for him, then see if you can convince your parents to call around to the vets and see if you can work out a payment plan with one of them.

If you can't and their solution is to let this poor dog lay around in pain then please see if you can find someone that can help this dog.

My friend's aunt's dog had this too. :p

(It was a Shitzuh, and she's pretty old) but anyways they brought her to the vet, they said she will die within a few weeks, that they can't to anything for her and it would be best if they euthanize her. Well they waited, and a few days later they brought her to another vet. I dont know if they gave her medecine, but they told them to wait and it would be fine. After like..around one week I think and she was fine, perfectly normal like nothing happened.

Wait like a week, and if his back legs aren't okay after, I highly suggest to bring him to the vet.

Hope I helped!

note: don't forget to help him go downstairs and things like that! (and if it's a small, house dog); if he does an 'accident' in your house dont punish him, he probably didnt have time to go outside.

Good luck!

I hate questions like this. If you don't have the money to take care of a dog, you don't get one. Your dog needs medical care. You are responsible for your dogs health. Find a way to pay the vet. If you can't pay for what the vet says is needed, at least try to find a rescue group that will take the dog, or pay to have it put down. May sound mean, but your dog is probably in pain.

TAKE HIM TO THE VET IMMEDIATLY! If you can't even afford to take him to the vet, why did you get him in the first place? I hope God takes pity on this dog and knocks some sense into you

Take her/him out to pee. This happened to my dog. If your dog dosen't pee, then take her/him to the vet immediantly. My dog had to be put down, but i will pray for your dog!!

or shelter so they can care for him

illegal not to provide medical care to animals

can't love to much if you don't find a way to care for it at vets

why do you have a dog if you cant provide basic things like vet trips, no it cant be fixed on its own, take it to the shelter

if you really can't afford the vet, you could always make tiny roller skates for his paws... he'll be soooo cute
