Rottweilers are wonderful dogs but they are very smart and need to be obedience trained. If your parents are prepared to go to obedience training for at least 3 years then you will have a well behaved trustworthy dog.

If they want a dog to live outside and just hang around guarding the yard then this breed is not for them. Rottweilers need to be inside with their family.

As with all other breeds, some dogs have great temperaments and others don't. It's usually in the breeding so make sure your parents get a puppy from a code of ethics breeder who will be available for advice and education and who breeds their dogs for good temperament above all else.

Do not buy a badly bred Rottweiler from a pet store or a back yard breeder. A registered code of ethics breeder is the only way to go.

I've had this breed for over 20 years and every one of my dogs has been gentle, kind and very intelligent. They have all been well trained and well behaved, trustworthy dogs.

Rottweilers are for the dedicated dog owner.

Add: Kristin, Rottweilers are no more rough or destructive than any other large breed. My Rottweilers welcome tiny Cavalier puppies into their home and treat them gently.

I weigh less than my Rottweilers and I have no problem controlling them.

The only problem with Rottweilers is that people who know nothing about them like to stereotype them.

Rottweiler are big and strong but this does not mean it is going to go around attacking strangers and other dogs. I was actually planning on getting a rotti puppy today but my mom is scared it will attack my 1 year old niece and that really makes me mad because they do not do that unless they was raised that way and I know I raise my dogs well and spoil them. I have a rotti mixed with shepherd and she is a great dog but one bad thing about her is that she does not like strangers. It is hard taking her in the car because when someone walks by the window she flips out and wants to attack them and it is hard taking her to the vet too..and I was never mean to her a day in her life I spoil her so much and I think this is why she does this..also she has this separation thing she hates when I leave her sight. But rottweiler are great dogs just treat it right and socialize it and it will be fine. Good Luck.

Yes! Have had the pleasure of training/raising them for over a dozen years now (6 to date). Very versitile and intelligent. It is important that your whole family takes the training of the dog seriously.

Have had good luck with both puppies from breeders and Rottweiler rescue organizations.

i have 2 and they are absolutely the best dogs to have. we trained very hard with our male (he was our first one), thinking he would be this manly overprotective meat head....but he is by far the dorkiest dog you'd ever meet. he LOVES kids even though we aren't around a lot of them, he's soo social and friendly...our female was a cruelty rescue. she WAS aggressive with other dogs (never people). we didn't trust her in every situation in the beginning...but with some love and our males personality to teach her to be a dog (she was never socialized and chained up the first 2 years of her life) she has turned out to be the best dog. we actually get more compliments for her. she is so polite and relaxed. she just lies down if we take them into petsmart while our male milks everyone for any attention they'll give him....

but all in all...a great breed to have...there are so many other breeds i would love to have (these are my first dogs) , but i dont know that i could ever not have a rottweiler from now on...

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://tr.im/XCvCx

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

I own 2 and they're great.

Like everyone has said, no dog is a bad dog its how you bring them up also like people have said too, get in and do your background work with them. They are a very strong dog especially the males. So make sure you either do thorough training with him/her yourselves or take it to an obedience class. Last thing you want is an out of control and an unsocialised rotty!

I love Dogs, and I think Rottweilers are very good dogs. Just like most Dogs they have to be trained, because if not, they can be very aggressive.

You could do research on the bio of rottweilers for a more in depth analysis.

However, my general view is that rottweilers are very protective dogs and due to that they are sometimes generalized as "bad dogs" because of their aggressiveness towards strangers. They only act like that because they see themselves as "protectors".

And the big point is that it's all based on how they are raised. If they are trained with attentive and responsible owners, then you'll have a very good dog! :)

Best of luck!

Not at all if you train them from the start. You need to explain to your mom and dad that researching a breed is a must before diving into something you know nothing about. Rotts do tend to be very stubborn and need a consistant and patient owner who is willing to both socialize them and train them from the beginning. A lot of rotts that go untrained and un-socialized turn bad and are aggressive because due to their lack of training, and their owners inexperience, they do not know how to act like a good dog and often get into trouble. Please research the breed, it may or may not be the dog for you.

If you are young, a rott could be a good companion, however they are big strong dogs that are rough and destructive. Also, if you have other pets in the house, be sure that you teach your rott to love them and never encourage rough play between a rott and smaller pets such as cats, little dogs, ferrets and other animals.

Rottweilers are excellent dogs. They do need to be trained and socialized properly just like any dog. They are extremely strong. So you need to be able to hold their leash pretty good.

They are wonderful dogs, but they MUST have a strong human master. Rotties are very protective and very strong. If your parents have time to train the dog, run the dog, attend to the dog, you're fine. If not, please direct your parents to another dog, because Rotties are NOT easy to raise, they need constant attention, attention, and direction. They're powerful dogs and for those who don't have time to train them properly; very, very bad decision.

Wonderful guard dogs.

We breed Rotties for livestock guarding, and they do a terrific job. They are one of the smartest breeds as well.

Any dog can be good. You just have to know how to be the leader.
