hey i know i have asked this question before, but that was a long time ago, i have been on loads of sites but i just wanted to know if anyone on YA used this feeding method and why, has it helped you dog or puppy and did you make the switch gradually or rapidly, also i have a 4 month old Siberian husky who sometimes eats kibble but recently i have been cooking her chicken and rice and giving her tripe from the pet store>>> how should i make the switch, also how much of what should i have her?, if you could tell me what you feed your dog or puppy that would be great thanks

It was originally thought to make the change gradually, like over a week or two period.

But because raw and kibble digest differenty it is now reccommended to change cold turkey. I would fast him for a meal, like his last meal at night, then make the next meal, which would be breakfast, raw.

I put my boy on raw at 8 weeks. The diet I had him was similar to B.A.R.F but I now feed him a diet closer to the Prey Model Diet, which he much prefers.

Puppy's switch the best to raw food because they have not had years and years of eating cooked food and kibble like adult dogs. Any side effects will pass in a day or two. Rocco had no side effects.

Order that book I told you about "Work Wonders". Everything you need to know is on there.

Here's a quick diet guide from the book.

Google Barf diets or raw feeding for canines - there's a lot of good info on line re ratios of bone, muscle meat, organs, etc. A rule of thumb is 2% to 3% of the adult's body weight, with a nursing female and pups that rule doesn't apply. Also, go to the B-Naturals website and scroll down to raw diets, it gives a good overview of muscle meat (protein source), organs, etc. and recipes for beginners. Good luck.

I feed my dog a quality brand of dog meat mixed with a quality complete food once a day, he wolfs it down and looks in very good condition, constantly changing your dogs diet is not where it's at, if you insist on feeding it stuff that you think is good for her go to your vet and ask about a dogs nutrition and what minerals and vitamins and food groups she actually needs, remember huskys traditionally have a small scoopfull of pemekin and seem to thrive off it. Sometimes it can take several months for a dog to settle into a new diet.

I don't believe in BARF, or other "commercialised" raw foods. That's just people trying to make money off of the raw diet "fad" without putting in much effort. You can easily feed raw diets at home, and if you google it, you can come up with a million different meal plans, I recommend searching the plan a breeder who breeds your specific breed of dog uses. I have switched all my dogs onto raw diets in the last few years, and am VERY pleased with the results. Healthier, shinier coats (and I didn't think that was possible), total eradication of any skin sensitivity or allergy symptoms, no smell, easier to clean poops, happier dogs.

my aunt is a vet and a dane owner.

and I asked her about feeding the BARF diet to my girls. and she said that yes-this is what wolves ate in the wild. but those wolves also didnt live as long as dogs do now.

I think if you feed a high-quality dog food then you are better off

but this is just my opinion

This is really something you should be talking to a nutritionist about, not people online.

I mean there are some people that give great advice out here, but you never know who knows what they are talking about and who is just spitting the first thing that comes to mind.

I'm just letting you know because your dog's health is at stake here. So please speak with someone who is qualified to give you knowledgeable advice.

Personally, I'd recommend the BARF diet because it does wonders to you dogs overall health. Look into prey model diets.
