Question:
My dog has horrible gas, and it doesn't seem normal.?

We've tried three different types of food, and all three do the same thing. First we gave him kibbles and bits, then we gave him EverPets (we were low on cash, sav-a-lot brand) and the most recent flavor is Old Yeller. We give him Ol' Roy treats when he behaves, and ocassionaly give him a rib bone or ham bone from a pig (NO chicken bones, I know).
When we first got him, for about a week he wouldn't eat, and had runny poo, almost like water. He got better, since then he's had really rank gas. What could be causing this? And his poo will constantly change consistancy, from almost a mealy texture in a pile, to normal turds, then go kind of greenish.
But he's all happy go lucky like everything is fine. HELP?!!
Oh, he's a little less than a year old, and a rot-lab mix.

i have to agree with every one. those foods are not good! I know that money is hard to come by these days, so buyin a premium brand may seem out there for your budget! But if you can do it i would!

the benifits are amazing! There is no corn or byproducts or meal in a higher quality food. Corn is bad news so is meal or by product( beaks bones blood hair guts ext..) they cause gas loose pooh and exsesive pooh!

Apremium brand will cause your dog to eat less pooh less and gas less I recomend Blue Buffalo Petsmart....Wellness Petco

Or a Cheap one that is very healthy is Chicken soup for the pet lovers soul!

you will have to go to there site to see where it is sold in your town!

EDIT:

I normally never reccomend this but if those are the only store you have, I would feed Eukanuba!!! I know I will get banter for this but if you cant find the above foods Eukanuba is better then what you are feedin! I hope I helped

Dogs are very stoic and do not complain. If he has gas, he has pain. You are feeding him salt and pepper and onions and pickled things in those manufactured meat left overs. Get and boil a chicken. Remove and discard all the bones. In the broth cook whole brown rice and when it is done add a high quality dry dog food to soak until it is soft. Chop the chicken and stir it into the rice, dog food and broth. If you get a meat based dog food like Natural Balance he will think it is a real human casserole and he will stop having all the gas and his coat and over all being will improve. You will have enough food for several days that you can freeze in feeding portions. They can be quickly heated and he will still think you are cooking especially for him. It is a lot people food that will not harm him and good meat based dog food that is good for him.

It is most likly because the food he is gettiing is of extremly low quality and has almost no nutrtional value but does have a lot of cheap fillers to upset his stomach. Also whe switching food all switches should be done gradually to prevent diareaha. If you want the bad gas, runny stools to go away, and your want your dog to be healthy and live a long life. Then I suggest feeding him a food that is actually good for him, good food is not that exspensive and makes for a healthier pet. You can also feed a prey model raw diet. Very healthy and not as exspensive as kibble. Also know that bones are great and healthy for him including chicken. You just always need to feed raw bones and never feed cooked bones. Cooked bones can splinter and that is what makes them dangerous.

I will be honest, all of those brands you have tried with your dog, are the WORST brands you can give. They are the equivalent of giving your dog fast food every day. Anyone would have bad gas with that.

Your dogs body is simply reacting to the poor food its trying to digest, and process.

Heres a list of known great quality dog food:

Artemis

Natural Balance

California Natural

Evo

Innova

blue buffalo

Wellness

Merrick

Nature's Variety

Timberwolf

Pinnacle

Eagle Pack

These are great dog food choices. Most of these dog foods are not found at Petco or Petsmart, so your going to have to go to another pet store to find these. Although Blue Buffalo is sold at i think Petsmart, and that is pretty good dog food.

Kirkland dry dog food, found at costco, isnt a bad brand at all either. Better than alot of brands out there.

Well you know how you keep changing his food, that is probably the reason why he gets different poo and unusual gas. If I were you I wouldn't give him to much people food cause that is what gives him runny poo. Look at the ingredients on the dog food then look them up on the computer.

Hope it helps.

It's PROBABLY because of what you are feeding him. I would get gas too if all I ate were corn and byproducts.

But make a vet appointment too.

try putting him on a higher quality food.

Definitely the food. I know you're strapped on cash, so why don't you try to make your own dog food? There are many recipes on the internet. Just make sure it contains protein (chicken is good and lean!), grain (rice and barley are good) and vegetables like sweet potatoes, green beans, peas, etc. NO onions, grapes or garlic (all are poisonous). And stay away from wheat and corn, many dogs are allergic. The link first link below has the nutritional recommendations for dogs and the second has some recipes that are a good start.

Number One: Vet check. Worms? Intestinal parasites?

Number Two: Change to a better quality of food. What you are feeding is nasty stuff not even good enough for the raccoon that lives in my backyard.

(You are already have good answers for food)

he's probably just fine... although how long has he had this gas? it could just be that he's trying to adjust to the new food... that's why i asked how long... but yeah, don't litter!'s also right...
