Of course they are real dogs. But they are not a recognized or real breed.

They are a scam made by backyard breeders to make you think you are buying a real breed when in fact you are just buying something bred from 2 runts.

Many people think that there is no such thing as a miniature Siberian Husky. If you browse the internet, you can even find rude comments on websites like Yahoo, directed at people who were bold enough to ask where they could get a Miniature Siberian Husky. Well, if you bought into that line of thought, you had better rethink the whole situation.

There really is a dog who is a Miniature Siberian Husky. And, we are not confusing it with the Alaskan Klee Kai, a similar looking dog, but an entirely different breed. A Miniature Siberian Husky is not a cross between any breed of dog nor is it a breed on its own. It is a true Siberian Husky, bred to be small. The Miniature Siberian Husky is very rare.

The Alaskan Klee Kai is also very rare but an entirely different breed of dog. The Klee Kai was bred by combining the genetics of the Alaskan Husky, American Eskimo, and Schipperke dog breeds. Miniature Siberian Huskies, on the other hand, are simply tiny Siberian Huskies, and they share the same temperament and qualities of their larger counterparts. They are a naturally occurring mutation in the breed. Their development is encouraged so that people who want a Siberian Husky but do not have the room to raise a large dog, can still be engaged in the breed.

So, if the Miniature Siberian Husky is simply a smaller version of a Siberian Husky, what kind of temperament and behavior might we expect in the dog? The Siberian Husky is a purebred dog, not a dog that is half this and half that. It was originally bred in northeastern Asia by the Chukchi people to be a sled dog with incredible stamina. The dogs were first introduced to the world when they started taking part in the yearly All-Alaska Sweepstakes Races, which most likely can be considered as a precursor to the modern Alaskan Iditarod race.

In 1925, this relative of the Miniature Siberian Husky got national attention when, Leonhard Seppala, a driver whose dogs were descendents of the original Siberian Huskies, braved the cold and snow to deliver a diphtheria serum for an outbreak in Nome, Alaska. He then traveled around the United States and competed in sled dog races. New England sled dog racers were so impressed they imported Siberian Huskies of their own, and went on to acquire AKC status for the breed. The Siberian Husky Club of America was formed in 1938.

Yes/No,

No there isn't a dog called "Miniature Siberian husky"

But there is breed called the Alaskan Klee Kai Dog.

Adorable little dogs, but quiet expensive in some cases.

Size: The Alaskan Klee Kai can come in 3 different sizes; Toy, Miniature, Standard. They can weigh from under 10 lbs to 23 lbs depending on whether they are Toy, Miniature or Standard breeds and their height will range from under 13 inches for Toy to 17.5 inches for Standard and can fall anywhere in between.

Coat: The Alaskan Klee Kai has a double coat and is sufficient in length to give a well furred experience. Their coat is similar to an Alaskan Husky.

Character: The Alaskan Klee Kai tend to be a little 'dog aggressive' if not socialized properly. It is truly wise to begin socialization as soon as you get your Alaskan Klee Kai. Unlike the Siberian Husky, the Alaskan Klee Kai can be standoffish and suspicious of strangers.

Temperament: The Alaskan Klee Kai is curious, agile, quick, and active. They are friendly and cautious.

Care: The Alaskan Klee Kai is an average shedder and should be brushed on a regular basis.

Training: The Alaskan Klee Kai is a quick learner and is fairly quick learner. They need a consistent, firm but gentle hand.

Activity: The Alaskan Klee Kai needs daily exercise and should be taken on a daily long walk

They are rare, but that doesn't mean you can't get one,

There is no such thing as a Mini Siberian Husky however there is a breed that looks like a Mini Siberian Husky. This breed is called the Alaskan Klee Kai. They have been around since the 70s and I'm not sure there are too many breeders of this breed. People often refer to them as Mini Huskies. So it may be difficult to find one.

The UKC does recognize them as a breed but I don't think the AKC does. My breed of choice is not recognized by the AKC either, the American Pit Bull Terrier, but they are recognized by the UKC. A lot of people feel the AKC is the know all end all of dog registries. lol Just because a breed isn't recognized by the akc doesn't mean they aren't a real breed. The AKC only acknowledges a handful of breeds.

Here is some info on the Alaskan Klee Kai

Here is the UKC breed info on them

Make sure you go through a reputable breeder. Go to some UKC shows and talk to the owners/handlers of the dogs you like and I'm sure you will find a good breeder. Most good breeders don't advertise online or in the paper. You want to make sure the parents have had proper health testing as well.

Good Luck

More Info on the breed:

Appearance:

They come in three sizes based on their height:

Toy size Alaskan Klee Kai are up to and including 13 inches.

Miniature Alaskan Klee Kai are over 13 inches high and up to 15 inches high.

Standard Alaskan Klee Kai are over 15 inches high and up to 17 inches high.

Serious Fault - Any Alaskan Klee Kai over 17 inches and up to 17½ inches.

Eliminating Fault* - Any Alaskan Klee Kai over 17½ inches

Alaskan Klee Kai come in four main color varieties. Black and White, which can appear with stark contrasts or with a more dilute diffusion of the colors; Gray and White, which comes in several variations; Red and White, which appears either as a cinnamon or a dark auburn, or shades of white.

Grooming:

As in Siberians and unlike short haired dogs who shed all year long, the Klee Kai blows their coat twice a year. Of course, the size of the dogs limit the amount of fur blown. It is best to groom the dog on a regular basis during this time. Some of the longer haired dogs can become matted if not groomed. Most Klee Kai will assist the loss of hair by rubbing against things such as fences.

Other than this period of blowing coat, the Klee Kai is very self sufficient

Temperment:

The Alaskan Klee Kai is a highly intelligent, curious and active breed. Unlike Siberian Huskies, whom they closely resemble, Alaskan Klee Kai are typically standoffish and cautious around unfamiliar individuals, which causes them to excel as watchdogs. Because of their inherently reserved disposition in the presence of strangers, continual socialization throughout an Alaskan Klee Kai's life is highly encouraged

You can also find reputable breeders to get a dog who should answer all your questions. If you're looking for a little breed that looks like a nordic breed I recommend:

American Eskimo (Toy Variety, 9 inches), link:

Pomeranian (3-7 pounds), link:

Yes, of course they are real. They are just not a breed of dog. They are the result of a irresponsible backyard breeder. They are the result of someone breeding two husky runts. They are usually unhealthy, please do not buy these dogs.

If you want a dog that LOOKS like a small husky, look into a Alaskan Klee Kai. Although they are a totally different breed of dog, they do look like one. Please don't get a dog just because of how it looks. Get a dog because you like how it acts.

No ,BYB stay clear Siberian Husky's come in One breed standard no miniatures.

No, it's not a real breed. Anyone claiming to breed them is an unethical breeder trying to make a quick profit off of badly bred mutts. If you want a small arctic looking dog get an American Eskimo. They come in three sizes and are available from reputable breeders.

Yes. Alaskan Klee Kais are also known as Mini Huskies.

Their mutts. Anyone selling one is a Backyard breeder or Puppy mill. They dont even have any real Husky in them. Dont look into buying one of these, if you do you are supporting a terrible industry.

Nope. Are there Sibe's smaller than what the standard calls for? Yes, but there is no legit "miniature" size of the breed.

Mama Tex: don't use a wiki page that is maintained by one of the POS breeders trying to make a profit off a scam. Who do you think made the page in the first place?

If you are going to get a husky get the real thing! If you get one make sure you can handle one! They are extremely energetic, excellent escape artist and shed like crazy. They are very hard to train and can be dangerous around small children.
