If you have the Home Again chip then
To avoid disputes of ownership, HomeAgain Pet Recovery Service requires that the new Primary Contact provide with the pet's original Confirmation Letter. The new Primary Contact must fill out the area on the bottom of the confirmation letter and return it to HomeAgain Pet Recovery Service with a payment of $12.50. If you have lost the Confirmation Letter, and would like to request a Primary Contact Transfer Form please complete the Primary Transfer Request online or contact HomeAgain Pet Recovery Service directly at 1-866-PET-ID24 (1-866-738-4324). Upon receipt of the Transfer of Primary Contact request, please allow 10 business days for processing.
If you have the Avid then
I have given or sold my pet to another owner. How do I complete a transfer of ownership?
We require written consent of the previous owner or a copy of the transfer of ownership certificate before a change of ownership is completed. For General Inquiries, or to change any information on a pet's microchip, please contact us at info@avidcanada.com or 1-800-338-1397 if you are calling within the United States or Canada.

The electronic code corresponds to your contact information within the pet license database. Unlike a tattoo, your contact information can be updated within the database if you move or change phone numbers (the chip does not have to be touched).

Absolutely, yes. If you can find your microchip paperwork, just look up the phone number or website address. If you can't find it, take your lab over to the vet and have them scan the chip for the information. Then you can contact the company for instructions on how to transfer ownership information.

Yes you can change the information. Just take him to the humanes society or if you have his microchip number simply call them and give them the new information along with his chip ID number. Vets also can do it as long as they provide that type of service.

If you bought the dog from another individual, that person needs to contact the microchip company to authorize a change. You can't just say the dog is yours now and put my name on file. If you got the dog from a shelter, the microchip probably isn't registered under any name yet, and you can provide your information. If you don't know the microchip company or #, go to your vet and get your dog scanned. Buying another will just muddle the process. If your dog gets lost, he'll scan with two different chips, two different owners. The first owner (oldest microchip) is considered the rightful owner. I have no idea what they cost over there. Here in the states, microchips run from $30 to $60.

Just tell the new owners that he has a microchip and tell them to go to the vet and tell them that the information needs to be changed so they will change it and everything will be good.

You should be able to change this info, as owner contact info or pet may transfer owners all together...contact the people who chipped your dog for more information...

Yes you can change it. I think there are multiple companies now, but in my experience you fill out a form and pay a fee. My company did not offer this online. I had to go to the vet and get a brochure that included the change form, then mail it in with payment.
