what are some great small dog breeds!?

Question

okay so im getting a labrador retriever and i want to get him a Friend when he turns 7 m/o. i want to get a small breed like really small smaller then a beagle. but im not so sure if the small dog would bee safe around a 7 m/o lab so maybe a dog that would be a labs size. but i still really would like a small dog. so tell me what dog breeds would be good with labs. not chiuauaus dachshunds or yorkies mastiffs rotties pits and no terriers please. and nothing foofy like a poodle! thanks for the help!

Poodles are good dogs! You don't have to have them groomed to look like little foofies. I always said I hated poodles and never wanted one, but ended up getting a poodle mix and I swear to you, best dog ever. I'm always going to have poodles from now on. And I just shave him and he doesn't look foofy :D

Maybe try a Jack Russel or Miniature Schnauzer...?

for small dogs I like the Pomeranian and the Maltese. The Maltese is very calm and doesn't bark much, he would probably be good for introduction to other dogs. Poms on the other hand are more hyper and don't do as well with other dogs but they are very lovable.



For a Lab companion I Highly recomend Maltese



You do know mastiffs get to be HUUUUUUUUUUUGE, right, I mean like four or five feet tall!!!

pretty much any dog goes well with a lab. if you are getting a small dog, i would advise getting one with an actual nose, they are less likely to be "foofy." have you considered checking out the local pound or animal shelter? then you could even ask the people there whether they have dogs that work great with others.

aweh no chihuahuas? i have a chi and a lab/golden mix and they are bffs lol my chi is a boy my lab mix is a girl and they seriously love eachother. i had the chi before and then we got the lab mix.

what ever you do don't get a jack russel, the one across the street just got put down for violent behaviour, the vet said its in their nature.
