My 9 month old chi has 5 normal toes on his front paws. although on the back of his front paws sort of at the bend he has another thumb like pad. this is on both feet, is this normal? just wondering because he is sapposed to be pure bred. also his baby fang teeth didnt fall out and they are right beside his adult teeth on top. his gums are normal color and all they dont seem to bother him does he still need them removed?

This is interesting. Going along with the whole extra toes toes thing, i just thought that i would bring up the fact that some animals just randomly develop extra body parts. Take silky chickens for instance, instead of just having the standard three toes and a dew claw silkies can grow up to six toes! So i think your dog might just be another exception to the way nature usually works. I wouldn't worry about a thing, and if anything really strange happens, you can always take her to see a vet. :)

In polydactyl animals, the foot has a different anatomy than "normal" animals, so the wear and tear on the toes and claws will be different.

The most common problem for polydactyl dogs is that the extra toe claws will grow into the pads, causing pain and infection. The claws on the extra toes need to be monitored and clipped regularly to prevent problems. If the claw is too difficult to access for trimming, the claw may need to be removed surgically.

For ref:-

The term polydactyl means many digits. (Digits meaning fingers or toes.) A polydactyl animal has more than the normal numbers of fingers or toes. The term "poly" means many, and the term "dactyl" is a Greek word for digit

I am not sure about the extra toe, but as to the teeth, it would be better for him if you got them removed. they are alot more likely to cause problems later in life. I have never heard of a chi retaining those teeth after the adult ones grow in, it is more commonly seen in little dogs such as min pins and rat terriers.my parents had 2 rat terriers mixes when i was growing up, and both of them retained the baby teeth. my mom had the males removed when she got him neutered, and the females fell out not long after that.

im not sure if you are describing dew claws or literally a pad. If they are dew claws (its like an extra nail on the back of the leg) then it is not necessary to remove them although if they are not attached to the bone it is possible for them to get caught on something and ripped out. So discuss it with your Vet

As for his teeth i have never experienced that before, so i suggest you ask your Vet about that too, because it might be good to get them taken out as a preventative measure, however if they are not causing him pain or affecting his eating then i wouldnt be too worried about it
