My dog has been eating Nature's Recipe: Farm Stand Selects for four years now. He is an older adult, but not yet in need of senior food. I am happy with the food I am feeding him, but I am looking for a more affordable option.I understand dry food is not the healthiest option, but there are many wonderful and resonably healthy varieties for him. I want to feed him something holistic, and perhaps grain-free. I am considering Blue Buffalo, Royal Canine, or anything made by Nutro. This can be very expensive, which I am expecting, but I was wondering if anyone had suggestions for a slightly cheaper option. Thanks!

Blue Buffalo would probably be the best option however it is very very expensive. One medium sized bag is about $50! My sister buys blue buffalo for her dogs and they love it but the price is extraordinary, the smallest bag of it is about $20.

Now I know of 2 dog foods I really like that arent too expensive.

Im not sure if there is a Costco where you live but its a big store like Sams Club but it does require a member ship however the benefits are great cause they have some good prices. They also have a good quality dog food from the brand Kirkland Signature and a large bag (20lbs) is about 20 dollars and it has great quality ingredients.

Theres also another good choice that I believe you can find in most Grocery stores and its called Evolve

I really like this dog food cause it has nothing but quality ingredients and its not over the top expensive, its more expensive than the kirkland signature but my dogs love this stuff, its about $20 for the biggest bag which is a bit smaller than the other brand i mentioned but I forgot how big a bag.

Then There is one more i personally really like but we dont get it often cause its pricey.

Its the Purina One Beyond

this food is so moist you can really feel it and my dogs LOVE LOVE LOVE this stuff and I enjoy feeding it to them

I remember the first time I ever fed my pup this, I had him do a trick for a piece and the second he ate t his ears perked right up and he started jumping around it was so cute:)

All these dog foods I mentioned have no corn whatsoever, no propylene glycol, and tons of delicious quality ingredients!

I really hope I helped and Good Luck!

Nutro has 2 products that fit your needs. Natural Choice Grain Free and Nutro Ultra.

I typically don't recommend the grain free diet for all dogs. Of the two, I would recommend that you go with something holistic like Nutro Ultra. It features a blend of super foods to keep you dog healthy including 3 proteins (real chicken is the first ingredient); cranberries and blueberries for a strong immune system; and flaxseed and sunflower oil are rich in Omega 3 and 6 to maintain a healthy skin and coat.

Depending on where you shop, Ultra is one of the more affordable of the choices you listed. It is great because it is made in Nutro owned factories in the US. Unlike other companies, Nutro buys all of its own ingredients directly, exclusively produces products in its own factories and conducts over 600 quality checks each day at each of these facilities.

Hope that helps :)

IMO, Taste of the Wild is the most bang for your buck. It's a 6 star out ot 6 star rated food and is also grain free. I don't care for Royal Canin or Nutro products.

Add: I guess I'm luckier than Emily as I shop at a family owned pet supply store near my home and I pay $36.99 for a 30 lb. bag. Taste of the Wild IS more expensive than that at *chain* pet stores.

Halo is a good, affordable food as is Chicken Soup For The Dog Lovers Soul. Blue is one of the best but also about the most expensive.

Chances are the most affordable healthy dry dog food is Old Roy or a similar food. Despite all the hype, speculation, half truths, there is no evidence th emore expensive foods are healthier.

Pedigree is one of the less expensive foods, it's full of grains and fillers. I would go for a higher quality food because you need to feed less of it. It's more expensive to buy but it lasts longer because you feed less of it.
