My dogs allergies have been really bad this season. she's chewed herself raw. the vet had given us some stuff and gave her a shot a few months ago and they didnt seem to help at all. Our vet is closed they had some highly dangerous electrical problem in the new building. anyways until theyre open again i'm clueless as to what to do we've tried everything on her. the last thing he suggested was something with lidocaine in it to keep her from chewing. well she seems to thing lidocaine is delicious. someone we met at a petstore while sitting going through products we havnt tried on her, suggested using something based with pramoxine HCI in it. we found some ointment thats basically just pramoxine and gel. but she may be 4weeks pregnant again cant confirm pregnancy till another week and vet reopens.. we have a waiting list for pups and she's my baby i dont want to risk anything but i'm tired of her tearing herself up. we've tried a cone but she's flexible enough to turn to where she can reach her tail and chew on it.

No sterioids for sure.. Cause clef palets and abortion..

Not sure if there is any real good info on this a lot of medications/topicals etc there just is not a large enough database on if you can use on pregnant dogs.. http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?c=0+1303&aid=856

If you want to try somthing,, I would try using oatmeal baised shampoos/creams in a attmept to sooth her skin.. also several antihistamines..Benadryl and Clortrimatom.. are not recommended.. so at a loss..

Good luck..

Instead of waiting all this time for your vet to re-open, why not take her to another vet? And why in God's name would you allow a dog with issues to the point of chewing herself raw to breed, passing down her problems to a litter of puppies????

And instead of asking a vet, you listen to someone at a petstore about giving her pramoxine HCI???

Please gt your dog to another vet, don't wait for your vet to open , and get your poor dog the help she needs, plus spay her so that no more dogs will suffer like your dog does.

breeding dogs that will suffer all their lives is irresponsible and selfish no matter how you spin it..so please..why dont you kindly piss off?

Well, luckily for you Pramoxine HCl is NOT a steroid. It is a topical analgesic. All longs as she doesn't lick her feet after your spray it on, it should be fine. I would contact your veterinarian first since they know more about your dog's history that we on the internet. In the mean time, try bathing your dogs feet in cool baths with an oatmeal shampoo. Be sure to let the shampoo sit on the feet for about 10 minutes and rinse with COOL water.
