I have a female Lhasa Apso and she is real good with other people's pets, but she loves to be the center of my attention and I'm affraid she may get jellous of another dog in our home. Also I am wanting another female, is it even okay to have two females live together. I plan on getting an American bulldog and I have read that they are generally good with other animals.

As I read thru the answers you received, I couldn't help but wondering if any of them has ever owned an American Bulldog. Especially an ABD *****.

Yes, if properly socialized, an american bulldog is generally good with other animals, however without proper training and socialization, they can be animal aggressive. Especially toward same sex. I have always found an easier household is a male/female combination. They tend to accept their roles without a battle for top dog. Of course you'll want to make sure that they have been altered to ensure there are no "accidents".

I just got a rescue dog. She and my other girl are getting along pretty well. I have had her for about a week now. Girls can be a little aggressive towards each other. I have just made sure that my 1st dog is treated like the alpha dog. She gets her food first, gets to sleep on my bed, gets to get in the car first

etc. I feed them at the same time but in different areas. Then I pick up their bowls when they have finished. My first dog doesn't like the rescue girl to stick her face in her bowl. They are playing together and enjoy hanging out with each other. Good Luck!! PS Girls Rock

Two female dogs can tend to have a great deal of problems with one another- sometimes it will not happen until 3-5 years of age when they are fully mature. You're chances of them co-exsisting together will go up quite a bit if they are spayed, however I would most certainly play it safe and get a male (as long as you alter your pets, you certainly do not want to mate those two breeds!).

Also, if you have any friends with puppies, I would try that. It's better to try with a friend's than get a puppy and have to return it. I know my MinPin has plenty of dominance issues however when we brought home a female puppy he had no problem at all. Either because she's a female, was a puppy, or because she's super submissive.

that's exacly how my 5 year old jack russell, lola is/was, and 2 years ago i got a female beagle and they are really really good together. if you have the money to take care for a dog and the time and take them for half hour walks everyday, their temprement together should be fine. american bulldogs are great dogs, my friend has one (a boy!) and it's the most well-behaved dog i've ever met.

specific completely known - I easily have Springers too, lady and male and he or she will have the flexibility to hump him! and he's her father ( I easily have had different canines yet have stumbled on lady Springers try this extra desirable than maximum breeds) that's slightly sexual experimentation yet additionally in particular approximately dominance in a woman - yet very known noticeably while extremely youthful. I basically distract her with a toy or a manage if it concerns me or the different canine

Yes, get a nother one, female or male, dogs like to be with other dogs, your current dog will be happier. But when you first get another dog, the older dog will try and show that he is the leader.

I dont think it matters if you get a male or female. What you really want to find is a submissive personality. If you have a dog who is possibly already dominant, getting 2 will be a problem.

they might go together well if your lhasa apso gets really jealouse easily then i dont think another female would go together well.

i had 2 females together and they were fine but they both werent jealous of each other.

good luck :D

Two females together can be a challenge. The two breeds you want have a huge size difference. I don't think this is a good idea.

Well i think if you got 2 female dogs in the house, it's okay as long as are of the same breed. If it's in different breeds, it depends of that breed is tough and the other one is kind or something.

It should be fine, just make sure they are both spayed. Dogs of all types both male and female will almost always try to be the alpha dog when they are not fixed. So if they both are fixed they should fine.

bull dogs are actually great with other dogs and getting a new one probably wouldn't be an issue. you just have to work with the two dogs and help them with that initial adjustment. i have three females (great dane and two shih tzu's) and they all get along. i think it's the males that tend to have issues. the shih tzu's dominate the great dane - shih tzu's are about 15 pounds and the great dane is 140. weird huh?!?

Go for it, any dog can get along with another dog it just takes time. You need to show your dog(s) that you are their pack leader, if you don't the dog(s) might kill one another for your attention. If you need more advice try searching for this guy "Ceaser Millan". Or try this website www.animalplanet.com or this show "Dog Whisper", or "Animal Planet".

Two female dogs will get along just fine. It's the males that you can only have one of. (That's the reason our world's in the mess it's in - males run it.) Have them spade.

if i were you, i would not get another dog. your dog seems to have become quite comfortable with the attention shes getting as the only dog in the house. you dont want to mess that up.

that is how my female is.

i thought that getting a male would make her less jealous, but that didnt do a thing.

males pee EVERYWHERE and aree alot worse.

i think getting another female would be best.

but at first im sure your dog will still be jealous, but she will get used to it.

Yes, I have one, they are better than male dogs since they are not as terretorial, specially if you fix her. Male dogs become more aggressive as they grow, and it's better to have a female dog, specially if you have kids.

Those two breeds should be okay together. Females usually aren't a good idea but it depends on what two breeds you have together.

no. don't get another female... when you've had a girl dog for a while, she's your princess. trust me, i'm speaking from experience. another one wouldn't be good. get a male.
