Take him out of his misery, go to the vet and put him down. If you don't do that he will be living in pain for the rest of his life with that fingertip sized chocolate chip in his digestive track

One chocolate chip won't hurt him, or even a whole cookie for that matter. You just don't want to feed him chocolate all the time, as it is toxic to dogs and cats in large amounts. I've given my cat, Elvira, tiny amounts of Nutella or chocolate ice cream and she was never hurt by it.

Chocolate chips are mostly sugar. Dark chocolate and unsweetened bakers chocolate can be dangerous. The amount that will cause severe illness depends on the size of the dog and the purity of the chocolate.

He's going to be fine, one chocolate chip is not going to hurt him in the slightest bit. A whole chocolate bar, on the other hand, would be very harmful and you probably should take him straight to the vet. But, no, don't worry about it at all, he's fine.

It depends upon the dog's age, weight & general health, as well as the type & amount of the chocolate that they consumed. I recommend checking out this chocolate toxicity calculator: http://www.petmd.com/dog/chocolate-toxicity

For example, I have a 60 lb. dog. It would take 1 kg (one of those giant novelty bars) of MILK CHOCOLATE for her to become seriously ill (& possibly die). But it would take only 3 oz (3 squares) of BAKER'S CHOCOLATE for the same result. Basically, milk chocolate isn't very dangerous to dogs. They would have to eat a LOT of it to warrant a vet visit. Semi-sweet chocolate (some chocolate chips) can be more dangerous, but they would have to eat a lot more than only 1 chip. But dark chocolate, baker's chocolate & cocoa powder are very dangerous to dogs. It could take only one dark chocolate bar to kill your dog. Or only a couple tablespoons of cocoa powder. It depends on your dog. Obviously, if a puppy or small dog eats the same amount of chocolate, it is going to be far more harmful than to an adult large breed dog.

One chocolate chip is NOTHING. I had a miniature poodle a few years ago who ate an entire full-sized bag of Hershey Kisses while we were gone and she was fine. She threw up a little, but apart from that, she was fine. One chip isn't gonna kill it.

He will be fine, don't put him down. Chocolate is bad for humans and dogs. One chocolate bar is like eating 4 chocolate bars too a dog.....He basically had four chocolate chips, He is fine and I bet he actually enjoyed it.

Would we put you down if you got a little sick from eating too much?

Your dog will probably be fine (unless he's like my dog and is allergic to everything and can only eat one type of food). But if you notice him acting strange or you're just really worried take him to the vet.

I'm sure he'll be fine.

haha oh my dog way to over react and instantly jump to putting the dog down. If your dog is puking non stop, can hardly walk, will not eat or drink anything, then it is safe to say take him to the vet, not to put him/her down but to simply help the dog.

A dog eating chocolate is only life threatning if it is a very large amount.

lol, oh my God! That was pretty funny. Dogs won't be sick off one chocolate chip. It's dark chocolate and cocoa, not milk chocolate, that makes them sick, although lactose intolerance can cause upset stomach, but nothing too major. He doesn't need to see a vet unless he seems to be sick, which is highly unlikely.

Well not to sound heartless but for years I've been letting my dogs eat chocolate. No I don't give then a huge amount. In the past I have had Black labs and mutts and other type dogs. I have never been the type to worry. They never have been to the vet and never got sick. I can agree it might not be good for them. But as for it killing them from ingesting a small amount don't think so .

It's one chocolate cookie. The danger is when you feed him chocolate constantly. That would eventually make him sick. But, one cookie does no harm. My dog ate 3 cookies one day because we accidentally left them in the table. He is fine and dandy. Don't worry your dog will be fine and will digest it as nothing.

Never ever let dog eat chocolate, just because it's dangerous and it might kill your dog! Chocolate is poison for a dog and a cat also. If your dog eats chocolate by accident you take straight away contact to your vet and take it to vet. Vet knows what do to help your dog!

He should be fine if it was 1 chocolate chip, my grandmother used to give her dog a tiny Hershey kiss whenever she needed to give the dog medicine and she was fine.

It's fine, as long as its not taken in large amounts or in any amount frequently. I used to have dogs who would used to at chocolate, and even they would act crazy for some hours, they would be back to normal again, totally healthy.

ONE chip? Not a big deal. Calm down. Just be aware, don't let him have large amounts of chocolate.

My dog ate chocolate cookie from subway, he didnt die. Just watch for any reactions. If you see any different behavior then bring him in. Dogs can mostly survive to eat anything.

Feed your dog some bread. One chocolate chip will not kill your dog- DO NOT PUT HIM OUT OF HIS MISERY, AS HE MAY FEEL SICK FOR AN HOUR OR TWO, BUT THEN YOUR DOG WILL BE FINE.

He will be fine :) it was just one right? Small amounts of chocolate will not kill him, but a large amount will. Chances are if he eats, for example, one or two squares of hersheys chocolate bar, he will have an upset stomach/diarrhea. But A LOT of chocolate could kill him

hes fine. One chocolate chip wont even give him worms, if he eats a chocolate cupcake get worm medication, if he eats a whole cake, then he needs to see a vet.

Does he act like he is in misery. I doubt it. One chip will not cause a problem, my son throws M&Ms to his German Shepherd every couple of days, just a few at a time, and one at a time, she catches them and eats them, she is 11 yrs old....so no harm done here. She's done this since she was a puppy.

Yes chocolate is poisonous to dogs, it's also poisonous to humans. Dogs are about four times as sensitive to theobromine (the alkaloid in chocolate) as humans are - but remember this is proportional to body weight. A human would probably vomit before they could consume enough chocolate to be a problem, but if a small dog gets into the chocolate stash it could be in trouble. Generally it's a not a good idea to feed chocolate to a dog, because they will always want some whenever they smell it and they'll get fat when you give in to those pleading eyes, but small pieces won't kill them.

Why is Chocolate Lethal?

Chocolate contains theobromine. A naturally occurring stimulant found in the cocoa bean, theobromine increases urination and affects the central nervous system as well as heart muscle. While amounts vary by type of chocolate, it's the theobromine that is poisonous to dogs.

Symptoms of Chocolate Dog Ingestion and Poisoning

You can recognize that your dog has eaten a toxic dose of chocolate from the symptoms. Within the first few hours, the evidence includes vomiting, diarrhea or hyperactivity. As time passes and there's increased absorption of the toxic substance, you'll see an increase in the dog's heart rate, which can cause arrhythmia, restlessness, hyperactivity, muscle twitching, increased urination or excessive panting.

This can lead to hyperthermia, muscle tremors, seizures, coma and even death.

How Much Chocolate Is Deadly?

If a 50-pound dog eats a teaspoonful of milk chocolate, it's not going to cause serious problems. However, if that same dog gorges himself on a two-layer chocolate cake, his stomach will feel more than upset and soon it's likely he'll be vomiting or experiencing diarrhea.

To answer the question "How much is too much" is not simple. The health and age of your dog must be considered. Obviously if your dog is aged and not in top shape, his reaction to a plate of chocolate is going to be different from a young healthy dog of the same weight.

Another fact that must be considered is this: Not all chocolate is the same. Some has a small amount of theobromine; another type has a large amount and still another contains an amount that is somewhere in between. The quantity has a relationship with the weight of your dog. Small dogs can be poisoned, it is easy to understand, from smaller amounts of theobromine than large dogs.

Which chocolate is the safest, relatively speaking? White chocolate. It has the least amount of theobromine: 1 mg per ounce. Far on the other side of the spectrum is baking chocolate, which has a huge 450 mg of theobromine per ounce!

Here are a few other chocolates for you to ponder: hot chocolate, 12 mg of theobromine per ounce; milk chocolate, 60 mg/oz; and up there near baking chocolate: semi-sweet chocolate with 260 mg/oz.

You might try using this to remember these chocolates from least to most toxic: What Happy Moose Says BAA? Or: White-Hot-Milk-Semi-Baked. If you have a better way to remember, contact us!

Knowing which chocolate is the most toxic is important, but leaves one wondering how much must be eaten to poison a dog. The list in this box should be helpful. Maybe you can clip it and post it on your refrigerator?

White chocolate: 200 ounces per pound of body weight. It takes 250 pounds of white chocolate to cause signs of poisoning in a 20-pound dog, 125 pounds for a 10-pound dog.

Milk chocolate: 1 ounce per pound of body weight. Approximately one pound of milk chocolate is poisonous to a 20-pound dog; one-half pound for a 10-pound dog. The average chocolate bar contains 2 to 3 ounces of milk chocolate. It would take 2-3 candy bars to poison a 10 pound dog. Semi-sweet chocolate has a similar toxic level.

Sweet cocoa: 0.3 ounces per pound of body weight. One-third of a pound of sweet cocoa is toxic to a 20-pound dog; 1/6 pound for a 10-pound dog.

Baking chocolate: 0.1 ounce per pound body weight. Two one-ounce squares of bakers' chocolate is toxic to a 20-pound dog; one ounce for a 10-pound dog.

hope this helps :D,,praying for thee safety
