Leerburg released a product called an A prong collar leash: http://leerburg.com/5131.htm?set=1

This leash is made so that a prong collar is attached to one clip and dominant dog collar™ (or backup collar) is attached to second clip. There is a 6 inch tab attached to clip end of the leash for that 2nd collar. When or if the prong collar fails and comes off the dog, the second collar is already attached without interfering with the prong collar corrections. Dominant dog collars™ and prong collars sold separately.

What do you think of this product?
Would you use it?

I love Ed, he will sell his nuts if he can make money. No, I would not use it, I have used a check cord on every dog I have trained on a prong collar for 33 plus years and the check cord is 50 cents...

I like innovative products, but, why should I pay $40 for something I already own?

On the other hand, have you seen the new Herm Sprenger prong collars...i do so love them and I have just located a source who I will use to get them from for much, much less that what they are listed everywhere else for...

It's sounds like what I've been doing for years - when I use a Gentle Leader, I also attach a round nylon slip collar that is a couple inches longer than would normally be used, to the same snaphook on the leash. Other people sometimes use a second leash, and twirl them together... That way, if the dog gets out of the Gentle Leader, the backup collar lets you keep the dog with you.

The double leather sounds too bulky, and I would have to wonder how a dog that is worthy of being a household pet could even get out of a prong collar in the first place. It sounds like they're training bears...

Why do people turn this question into something it's not? No, I would not use that leash.

I use prong on all my dogs, personal&foster. With my personal dog, I do not use backup. She is very well trained and if for some reason it did come undone, it's not like she would take off. I would just tell her to sit, and she would wait for me to fix it and put it back on. With the foster dogs, however, Having a prong collar come undone could be a disaster. Most of them have no recall, and if they figure out that they're no longer on leash, they could be gone in a second.

To all you idiots out there dissing the prong collar, do some research.

"I would have to wonder how a dog that is worthy of being a household pet could even get out of a prong collar in the first place. It sounds like they're training bears..."

You might be surprised! I have had a properly fitted prong collar just come undone, for no reason. I also use prongs on my foster dogs, and they don't always like the idea of being leashed and will struggle and squirm, which makes the prong come undone.

It is much better to be safe than sorry, right?

ETA; I'm not sure the exact brand, it is just the ones from Petco/Petsmart. My parents want me to pay for all "extra" dog stuff, so, I don't really have much money to buy any type of higher-tech one. TBH I didn't even know there was more than one type of Prong! I am happy using the one I have now, without backup when on my personal dog and with backup when it's on the fosters. :)

That doesn't look like it would be a sturdy leash to use. I wouldn't use it, mainly because I don't use prong collars(I have nothing against them, they're great tools when used in the right hands*like any other training tool out there* I just don't trust myself to use them correctly)

Halti has a leash that serves the same purpose, if needed. That one can be bought for $5.

I have been using a strong leather six foot lead with a d ring and backup collar for years and no plans to change because of this product. It appears more useful that it is as a regular lead with a backup attached works just as efficiently, thus no need to spend money unnecessarily. A bit like reinventing the wheel and I will not change for changes sake.

However I have recently purchased a Herm Sprenger Neck Tech collar because it was a better product than the design I had been using for a number of years. New is not enough to sell something to me, there has to be a functional reason why I should spend money on it.

I have used a prong collar, for a few months, on my dog to help with pulling (ultimately, I got a better result with the easy walk harness with regard to curbing the pulling)...I saw no reason for a backup collar as there was no way she was going to slip the prong collar, and I'm not enough of a pessimist to assume it would break (or I'd have a backup for everything in life)...

I currently use a leather martingale collar on her for walking, and I don't have a backup for it either... ☺

I have been lucky to not need a prong collar...knock wood. But I do use a Gentle Leader when initially training and then weaning the dog off to a flat collar. When I started using it the trainer showed me to hook the GL and the Flat collar together. I really didn't like using it that way and just hooked the leash to one or the other. I don't see the need for hooking both collars to the leash and it actually makes it harder to use.

I don't like a problem. It's like putting a band aid on an unwashed cut. It MIGHT heal, but chances are, the problem is just being masked, and will get worse. I taught my dog from an early age just using a leather leash and flat buckle collar. I don't really like any type of walking tool (prong/check collar, harness, halti, etc). My thought on this leash is that if the prong collars they're selling are cheap enough to simply fall apart that they need a second collar, I just wouldn't buy any of their products. I HAVE seen people use leashes similar to that to walk 2 dogs at once, but I haven't seen it with a prong collar.

Uhh no. My dogs aren't that bad where they need a prong and choker to be used simultaneously on them. I rather a normal leash and a prong collar. That's all I need.

Ive seen this made many times by other collar/leash makers, and i think its a great idea. prongs arent fail-safe, and having a backup would seem like common sense. If i used prongs, yes, i would use it. (i wouldnt buy that one though.)

No I wouldn't use the collar or the leash but I am good at training puppies so I Don't need tools like that. If I ever got so inept at training that I would need those......it would be my clue that I need to quit training.

I don't have to use that type of crap on my dogs, because they are trained to walk politely with a plain leahter buckle collar and leash, from the time they are pups.

Personally I would use the "Gentle Lead" It loops over their nose and clips behind their ears. It works like a horse halter without the mouth piece. My dog has pulled me to the ground more than once until I got the Gentle Lead collar. It doesn't not hurt them at all, they just don't like you turning their head so they stay right by your side. The only thing that works on my 120 pound bloodhound. I have tried the prong collar, a choke collar, a harness and all have failed at keeping him from pulling.
