Question:
Posting Bad Breeders - Would You Post on and Support This Group?

I recently had a horrible experience with a dog breeder. I did excessive amounts of research before purchasing the puppy and everything looked fine on the surface. However, the puppy that I was sold was sick and the breeder knew it. My Pup has recovered now and is an excellent dog, but the breeder didn't care *at all* when I contacted them to say that he was sick. I reported the breeder to the SPCA and they said that their hands are tied because this person is not actually abusing their dogs. So, the breeder is still in business and I would like a way of warning other people.

If I created a website where people could post the names *alleged* bad breeders would any of you support it? Why or why not?

I have not found a website like this for my region of Canada.

Please don't be nasty, I'm only trying to help.

yes i would--this is stupidity I have the puppy i was worried about getting parvo. I just want to let you know she never went in the backyard where my other dog was sick, and i found her a really nice home where she is going to get her shots. I didnt want to chance her of getting parvo and like the vet said the shot might work or it might not. So shes safe now.

keep in touch because i do think it is wrong especially for a breeder to do that when they should know better. Good luck with getting that started and let me know what i can do.

I'm not sure. I have seen absolute 100% AMAZING breeders who do absolutely every health test possible, show dogs, champions, is just the picture perfect breeder, slandered online and have their reputations smeared by one disgruntled buyer. I'm not saying that it's the case with you, but just throwing it out there as an option. This person had to have their lawyer threaten to sue to get it taken down. So it's probably not a good idea, unless it's a BYB who doesn't care either way.

You should file a report about where you got the dog from at www.ripoffreport.com

Why not turn them in to the Better Business Bureau? They have a website for both US and Canada.

Selling animals IS their business and you have a right to file a complaint.

A lot of people check out people on the BBB. I have seen other breeders websites with a BBB approval stamp. If you haven't checked with them you may find that there are already negative reports on this breeder. Its worth a try.

I think in the US there is a law against selling sick puppies, its like called the "puppy lemon law" or something. Anyway, if you created the website, I'm sure that people would contact you with stories about their experiences with bad breeders, and people would be able to find it in a web search. If you think it is a good idea, go for it. I would just make sure that if you post these people online, there isn't some way that they can't do anything to prevent it or get you in trouble. You know how people are

There is a group that posts well documented abusers of animals.Much of the information needs to be backed up by a news article, court ruling etc.

"alleged" is not good enough to possibly destroy an innocent person.

One must be careful fo grudge matches, defamation of character and the responsibility to post verified truths.

Because you found nothing, it doesn't translate to the truth. Also please define a bad breeder. Is it false advertising, selling sick animals or what?

If you only suspect something, then verify it with an investigation first.

That it how this person would recommend a useful site above reproach.

Otherwise it is called a rumor or someones opinion.

You definitely need to figure out the legal angles before you start. I know someone who has a similar website for moving companies. Everyone else who works on the site has been sued, but the problem moving companies can't figure out who she is. On the other hand, I see really angry hotel reviews on major travel websites, and no one seems to shut them down. Maybe a breeder review site would be less of a problem them a bad breed site.

I wouldn't support that. I don't mean this as offensive but every problem has two sides. What if you were the problem in this transaction?

I'm not saying that you were necessarily, but many dog owners don't understand the process for buying a pup. I could see uneducated dog owners trying to ruin someones reputation for something as simple as getting a dog with worms or something of that nature.

I think if you are going to have an issue with a company that you should do everything possible within proper channels. If and only if you have done that there are already websites in place like ripoffreport that deal with this. I'm still undecided on those because someone's reputation could be forever damaged for even one mistake.

I think it is a great idea - rate the breeder. I guess you'd have to make sure there was no case for libel, etc. Another issue could be people posting false reports against a breeder who was consistently beating them at dog shows, etc.

That would probably lead to legal problems. Any breeder listed on the site would likely sue you for libel. If you had a bad experience with this breeder, try reporting them to the breed club. They might not be able to do anything, but at least they can help warn other potential buyers.

honestly...there are a ton of websites posting all about puppy mills, and not to buy from petstores, not to buy people who breed "designer mutts" and people ignore those and still buy them over and over and over it happens. so the people who would check out this "bad breeder" site, are not the people we NEED to reach...we need to find a way to reach those people who still think it's ok to breed or buy a cockapooshnitzoopoo...they ignore the puppy mill warning websites..they wouldn't even glance at the "bad breeder". And there are the BYBs on this forum..dozens of people respond to these BYB questions you'll find here they will rebuke the BYB and warn others not to buy from people like that...but who do the warnings reach? Maybe one person. at least one I hope.

add: instead of a bad breeder list, more people just need to learn how to spot a good breeder. I'm not faulting you for not knowing that. but i'd like to see more websites that tell people what a reputable breeder is and what a BYB is and how to spot both. I'd support more of those..

nicely, enable's see..... First i could positioned a image advert interior the doggie personals column finding for that particular guy. on a similar time as that's happening, i could take Sophie to the doggie salon and function her nails finished, shaving or waxing is a could. probable waxing because of the fact that leaves a a lot smoother epidermis, which "Mr. dogs" will appreciate. Oh, sure, and function her tooth wiped sparkling. a reliable smile will win 'em over each and every time. by now, i could have a line up of potential "dates" for Sophie. So, being the right tournament maker that i'm, i could go interview the dogs with out Sophie to locate that particular guy. after all, i understand what's nice for her. Then, as quickly as "Mr. dogs" is stumbled on, i could set a date along with his proprietor. Then off to the save i'm going.... wine, candles, & gourmand dogs treats are a could to set the temper. there is likewise reserving that particular region for the progression needs to be finished. Then, there is "the date!". Stand back and watch the romance! optimistically "Mr. dogs" won't call interior the morning after this actual experience. Sorry Cindy..... i'm incapable of being extreme!

Some of these breeders are good at keeping ahead of the word of mouth. They move, change kennel names and even use different names themselves.I would strongly recommend good legal advice prior to starting anything up.

You would have to be very careful with something like this. People may sue you for slander. I know some horrible breeders but I will not post names online.

Contact the national breed club. If there is sufficient evidence and reason, they will black list the kennel.
