Question:
Is this a weird idea for a dog bed?

I have 4 dogs, and have wanted to buy a new dog bed for quite some time. The only issue is that my 1 year old APBT shredded the old one(just a basic pillow bed), my guess is he thought it was like a stuffed toy.
SO my neighbors were throwing out a crib mattress that they no longer needed, and I thought it would make a fantastic bed for the dogs since it can be easily cleaned(sheets replaced, wipe the mattress off AND if there are ever fleas in my house, they can't get into the mattress because of the material), so I took it off of their hands.
My dogs seem to like it all right, and it can fit at least two of them on it. But is this a weird idea for a dog bed? Has anyone else done it? Do you think its going to be a good idea in the long run?
Thanks!

Not weird at all. In fact, I know of dozens of people who do this when having multiple dogs. (Dobermans, not that it matters)

It sounds like a great idea...especially since it was free!

Dogs could still shred it if they wanted but that's with everything.

I've heard of some ppl with Great Danes using mattresses for their dogs as beds, never heard of any complaints other than eventually wearing down of the mattress.

It honestly doesn't matter if it's weird- if it works, who the heck cares?? If somebody thinks your dog's name is weird are you gonna change his name or get rid of the dog? Lets hope not. XD

I think it's an awesome and creative idea for a dog bed and it should last a bit longer than other beds too. Perfect with the sheets-

lol- wish I had one. :P

Sounds like a good idea! We have a twin size mattress that we are using as a temporary bed in our 2nd guest room till we can get an actual bed, and when my fiance's brother comes over he sleeps on it. Then whenever our GSD can get in the room, she promptly lays down and goes to sleep. She loves it.

I would make a cover for it. so the dog body oils don't ruin the mattress.

another good thing is a old futon mattress.

bean bags work well , too.

Great idea! Keep an eye out the first week just to make sure your shredder isn't working at it! I would also make a cover for it, if it's plastic it will be chilly. But a super idea.

Fantastic idea!

Yes, because of all the reasons listed by you but also because you have now created a safe haven for them. That crib is now their room.

That sounds like a pretty good idea! But if you do have fleas they still will get in to the material their eggs are small.

it's an excellent idea because after the dog has shredded it, it still won't have cost you a cent!!

--you think they can't, but they'll find a way. They always find a way--

not at all ! the main thing is the dogs are safe & comfortable and if they seem to be doing ok thats fine , they're enjoying their bed & thats all that matters ! :D
