alright...i gave in and we got a damn french poodle, because that is what my wife wanted. at first i told my wife i wanted a bulldog---there's the french bulldog and the english bulldog, and i wanted the english bulldog cause the english aren't anti-american, anti-democracy traitors. when she said she wanted a french poodle, i said let's compromise and get a french bulldog, but i couldn't change her mind no matter how hard i tried. so we got the poodle and now she wants to name it fifi...i swear to god my skin would melt off if i spoke the word fifi outloud. can you imagine having to yell that out your back door to get the stupid dog back inside? again, i proposed a compromise where we get the dog she wants but i get to name it. i was thinking we'd name it something manly, like bruce willis or john wayne, but she'll have none of that. we're talking about my basic human rights here...i should have a say. i need some advice on how to go about this folks.

Forget it. You've already been emasculated and there's nothing you can do about it.

Is the dog pedigreed? If so, why don't you say - O.K. we can call the dog Fifi, but I want to give the dog a more unique name on the papers. Name the dog Sir Bruce Willis on paper - or whatever you want. Find something the dog does that reminds you of Bruce Willis. "Gee honey, that's the bravest dog I've ever seen. He has so much determination trying to jump on the couch. He keeps falling, but he won't give up like Bruce Willis in "Die Hard." I think I'm going to call him Willis." Keep doing that and make her laugh. Also, make it believable. Soon she will be calling Fifi, Willis too!

Try to find a "manly" name that has the "Fi" sound in it...like Philip maybe? Or Finnegan? Something like that. Then you can call it the normal name and your wife can call it Fifi. No skin melting for you, cute diminutive for the wife.

My dog's name is Sampson, but he responds equally well to Sam, so I think that dogs can learn nicknames pretty easily.

If something as minor as calling a dog by the name of Fifi is enough to emasculate you, I have to say you can't be much of a man to begin with. Real men wear pink, change diapers, and yell Fifi! JMHO

Alright, calm down and just call the poor French bulldog a name that could be pleasing to your wife and yourself. You could call the dog "IFFY" - pretty close to "FIFI" and won't be embarassing to you - your wife should be that compromising, don't you think? Here's another thought: I have a male black and white cat. His name? B.W. (Stands for Black and White). So, using initials would be another compromise. (B.W. could also stand for Bruce Willis). Whatta ya think? Just remember when you pose the alternatives - be nice. Good luck! Wisdom Speaks!

Ok, I take it that it is a male dog we're talking about. How about the name Curly. You men seem to like the three stooges don't you. If you don't like that you can always name it Harley! Good luck, I bet you fall in love with the little guy in time. My husband did not want a yappy small little dog, but I talked him into getting a yorkie/maltese mutt. She is the cutest sweetest thing you ever saw. Well sure enough after about three weeks, he bonded with her and now she is absolutely attached to him and follows him whereever he goes. He loves her to pieces. You might too!

CROW THE WARRIOR KING lmao just kidding, anyway yeah for Christmas I wanted a puppy but not a little one, my husband wanted a mastiff and I want a saint Bernard.. After several days of puppy dog eyes, begging and not well you know lol.. I got my dog then the name thing started he wanted to give her a big name cause she is so big and I wanted to name her LuLu Fritz, he hated it.. Well her name is LuLu Fritz after several more days of the same thing, and he wont say her name he calls her s*it eater, a** hole, Dumb a**, Special Ted, and the list goes on and on.. She know comes to fat a** and most the others and has no idea LuLu is her name, so my advise it to call her something else lol.. good luck

i agree with one of the postings above. name the dog something like finster or frank, then your wife can call it fifi and you can have a manly name. or you can always call it with the names that is for either male or female:

stacey

tracey

tony

hope these suggestions work.

I'd say there are worse things in the world to worry about than a dog named Fifi...if you didn't want the dog why get it...if you can't live with the dog...move out.

You have choices...be an adult and make one.

most pets seem to answer to anything with the right last sounding syllable. Since she will call the dog Fifi, you could call the dog Dorky, Dummy, etc. Anything with the "eee" sound, the dog is likely to answer to.

Go ahead with Fifi. It doesn't matter. If you are like my Husband, you will call the dog shithead most of the time anyway.

why not find a name that is a bit neutral in gender like snow if its white, coco if its brown, ash if its grey, onyx if it's black or some other neutral name that might not relate to its coloring. Or you could just go with plain old curley just don't tell her you named it after one of the three stooges.

Just yell out "fi!" It will still come. I'd try telling her how UN original it is...like people calling their boxers Tyson
