I am not reading all the replies so sorry if I may repeat something.
There are always warning signs and people fail to see them. Such as some think when their dog is humping their kid, it's funny and don't realize the dog is dominating the child.
Or they let the kids alone unsuperivsed and they acutally have no clue as to what happened. Regardless of breed & size you never let a dog alone with a child.
It could be a genectic problem but that is rare. Health issues can factor in also but people fail to miss that one also.
There was a boxer that suddenly attacked a child. Turns out there was a medical issue. It had a brain tumor.
We don't know if all these attacks are Pit Bulls or Pit mixes most people can not tell. I have seen several mislabeled. There was a dog that attacked and was accused of being a Pit Bull and it was a greyhound mixed with something I forget what but it was not a Pit.
When you hear of these dogs attacking, no one bothers to investigate the back groun the dogs came from. Such as an abusive home, with no training, a home that allows the kids to torment the dog, not properly socialized etc. Dogs do get to the point to where they have had enough of the live they are living.
There is always a reason behind a dog bite/attack. No dog just turns on their owners. There is always a reason.
I am an owner of 4 Pit Bulls, plus a rescue that will be up for adoption soon. There is not an aggressive bone in their body. My male is my Service Dog, My Golden Retriever failed cause she growls at people.
I took in a Pit Bull mix, he had to be PTS because he had behavorial issues and could not be trusted. He came from an abusive past. Most dogs bounce back well from their abused lives but some do not.
You need to judge the other end of the leash not all Pit Bulls are bad. You can't judge a whole breed for what others have done.
All dogs breeds have bitten at one time or another. Golden Retrievers are biters though you do not hear about it in the news. They don't make money but Pit Bull headlines do.
Yes I have been bitten and have a nice scar to prove it. Was it her fault nope, she was fearful of other dogs when they barked. And in turn became very aggressive towards them. There was a dog barking near by and I touched her to get her away (she was on alert), she reacted and bit me out of that fear of being attacked by another dog.
Her former owner left her in a kennel with a female that tore her up all time. So barking to her meant getting attacked. She was great with other dogs till they barked. So you see there is always a reason.
(yes she was PTS, in the wrong hands someone could have used her to fight)
You need to meet good responsible owners of this breed. Not listen to what people say cause they listen to the media.
There are Pit Bulls that are therapy dogs, service dogs etc.
This Pit just retired from 5 yrs of being a therapy dog, giving the eldery kisses and listening to children read etc
