I need some major help! My dad might just let me finally get a puppy, but I don't know which one to choose! It can't shed and it needs to be smallish because we have quite a small backyard (thought it's quite a bit bigger than a patio garden) The cheeper, the better because I need to save up for it, but I'm open to ALL suggestions! Thanks!

check your local animal rescues for pups.

Also, to what breed,it really depends on your lifestyle (And just because u have a smallish yard it doesnt necessarily mean a small dog, more of the smaller dogs need more exercise then the larger ones.. you can also walk your dog and go to parks for more exercise...),how much you are willing to spend to exercise & train them..

And all dogs shed to some extent, it really depends on the quality of what you feed and regular grooming will help keep it down..

Please make sure there will be money around to provide for the puppy before obtaining one.

ADD:

To your add you need to definilety research better on dog/puppies before even considering getting one right now.

No one can tell you what type of dog to get, but you have a wonderful tool (computer) that will allow you to come to the right decision.

Before I got my dog I put in many hours researching breeds (pedigree and mixed) and then searching for breeders.

I would suggest that you make sure exactly what type of dog you want and be sure you love it before bringing it to its' forever home. I say this because housebreaking a puppy takes a lot of time and patience, but most of all love. It is also quite a bit of hard work.

Also bear in mind you will be getting up once during the night for a potty call whether you need one or not. :)

Good luck and enjoy your puppy.

The best idea would be to go to your local shelter. They have great dogs for adoption and their staff can help you find the perfect one. The great thing about adopting from the shelter or an adoption agency is that the animals are usually relatively cheap and include the cost of a spay or neuter and the basic vaccinations.

Good day,

ask your self- how much time a day will i be able to give this pet...

then get to studying ( your online)

what size area and what attentions does dog needs and you need training to be a

good pack leader. all this is very important for a wonderful pet owning experience...

check into the show dog whisper...

Don't jump into this, this is real and 2 lives are in the works here..know its a total commitment .7-15 plus years...of another soul depending on you, for everything..food

dr visits, and meeting it needs for good mental health of dog and owner..

after some soul searching hit the pound...with and wisdom and open heart and the dog with find you...you will know...

I was luckily enough to have a wonderful soul in my life for 15 years and i was 8sh when we got her...i am 48 now and i think of her and now and know she was a gift from god...

but i knew when she was alive..

so be good dog owner and you will have a gift from god...wishing you wisdom...

The Shih-Tzu is definitely the dog for you and I'll tell you why. They don't bark, they're intelligent, they don't shed at all, they are eager to please and extremely lovable (my dad used to hate dogs before blackie and walter came along, now it breaks his heart to be without one). The best advice I can give you if you want your dog to go over well with your parents is to take obedience classes, you will NEVER regret it and you only have to take them for about six months for them to work. Good Luck!

Need to save up for it? You prepared to save for 10 years of ownership including potential medical emergencies? Dogs are not cheap, not a light decision to make and definitely not a small investment!!!

Oh, and they shed.

How about a fish?

Lhasa Apsos--- they are teddy bear dogs, and they weigh between 15-20 pounds. VERY good dogs, smart and sweet. They don't shed, ever, but it costs money to get them groomed every couple months, even with short hair.

Chihuahuas are very loyal and smart. But they are inside dogs. A good small outside dog would be a beagle.
