Right now our trucks aren't running, so I let my four month old lab, Diesel, ride in my car. It's a lumina. He sits in the passenger floor board when the car is moving, but when we stop at a red light he jumps in my lap and sticks his nose out the window. If I put the car in park, he will stick half his body out the window.

He also sometimes rides sitting up in the passenger seat when the windows are down (I don't let them down all the way for fear he'll jump or something)

So where does your pooch prefer to ride??

My Dogs either sit in the passenger seat or in the back seats. They go back and forth. They lay down when driving and then sit up when we get to stop signs and look out the window from time to time. Sometimes they try and come on my lap but I only allow that when I am closer to home cause driving with them between me and the steering wheel can get a little hard at times and its best to not have them there so as to have complete control of the wheel to drive as to not get in an accident.

My dogs prefer to ride in my lap. They are small dogs and usually this does not present a problem. But I usually tell them "back" and they will ride in the backseat or if we're in the truck, the "back" of the extended cab. I can NEVER leave my windows down more than a couple of inches if I'm getting out of the car. My 6 lb. dog will jump out of any window no matter how tall the vehicle is.

Well, my dog used to sit in a back seat and he loved it. But he was a calm dog, so I didn't have any problems with him. He liked to stick his nose out the window too. I think the safest way for your dog to ride in a car is back seat. And if he's restless like yours you should get a seat belt for him. They are available in most pet shops and are very useful. He'll be comfortably strapped in the back seat. You won't be disturbed by your dog while you're driving and he'll be safe. So, just get that seat belt for him and there won't be any more jumping around and jumping out of the windows! And just in case keep your windows rolled up so your dog can only stick his nose out and not half of his body, cause it can be dangerous, he may wanna jump out one day while you're driving.

My dog rides in the trunk because I have a suburban. I have a little cage/wall that keeps her from coming up into the rest of the car. Sometimes I feel bad for her but she was a real pain when she would jump over near me when I was driving. She also got hair everywhere. She is also not a small dog like I imagine your dog to be. She is a border collie, so she's not the biggest dog or the smallest dog, she's the perfect dog!

Well my new puppy, Bagle, likes to sit in the passenger seat, and you're right to keep the windows down, just incase the puppy wants to jump. Bagle likes the passenger seat, because he likes to stay close to me, and he gets to look out both, the side window, and the front window.

He looks sooo cute when his head is out the side window, and his ears are at the back of his head. He's a beagle.

Well. my dogs are hyper, so riding in the vehicle is calming for both. The bumpiness calms them down-- as for motion for babies- such as rocking calms a baby down. Each dog is different when it comes to sitting in a vehicle, just like each child is different. Some children prefer front seat, while others like back seat, and some even enjoy sitting in the back of a truck which in some states is illegal.

Good luck

We have three Poms. They like to ride in the front seat, preferably on one of our laps, however we make them ride in the back seat for safety reasons. Those reasons being the same as the reason young children, by law in many states, are required to ride in the back seat which is due to the risk of injury or death caused by the airbags if they happen to go off.

Your dog should be restrained or behind a barrier before you have an accident. And letting him ride with his head out the window is a good way to let him get hit in the eye with an object thrown up by traffic, or get his ears infected.

Well my dog sits on my lap because he's a Yorkshire Terrier and he sits on my lap when I sit in the front while someone's driving and my dog sticks out his head and he loves it.

If you had a small dog then your dog would be looking out the window because small dogs like to look out windows.

I my backseat of my car is where my 2 dogs love to ride. I roll the windows down on a nice day, and I always get people honking at me and yelling, "nice dogs!", or "what kind of dogs are those?" or "are they mad or something because their hair is standing up on their back..." (they are Rhodesian Ridgebacks and they are born with it is what I yell back to them and usually go into a short and quick conversation about them) And if they have kids in their vehicles they scream and point " look a doggie!" or "puppy! momma dadda puppy!, puppy!" We love all the attention, its great! :D

In the back seat or the back of the car.

They have been taught to ride in back and not get in the front and not get in the way of the driver.

Dogs should be in the back not in the drivers lap.

When we are hunting they have insulated padded dog boxes to get into so they stay warmer.
