I am after a dog that can be left at home while i work full time, friendly with people, and is happy to be in a car for hours(I drive from Sydney to Brisbane every couple of months). One that does not loss much hair, or bark to much. I was thinking about a maltese but was told they can get very depressed. I was also thinking a W/H Terrier. can anyone help me?
The Bichon is another one on my list...

Here is one.

I'm not sure on how accurate they are, but here are some sites where you can research the breed it claims is best for you, just to make sure it really is.

Its not a good idea to leave ANY dog in a car, even for a little while. That is how some dogs get stolen by passers by, and how many dogs have died from the extreme heat of being trapped inside a hot car.

If you leave the windows down for him or her, a thief can reach in and grab him or her, or if you leave air conditioning on, that will encourage carjackers to break into the running car.

It would be better to take your dog with you and have him or her in a travel crate while in the building with you, that way you'll know that he or she is safe. Let the dog out of the crate and walk around if your allowed to. :0)

Sorry dear, those things don't work even close. You need to go and visit a variety of dogs and figure out what it is you want and need in a dog and why. I know what dog breed I want and need and why and going through those little test things they always come up with some breed I would never own knowing both what I know about the breeds and what I need in my life. There is no 'easy answer' in most things in life and taking the time to honestly research and make informed and meaningful decisions regarding bringing a living creature into your life for the next decade or so isn't something some game on a website will tell you.

Try the Pedigree site:

http://www.pedigree.com.au/select/

They also have breed profiles so you can look up the details of any breeds you are interested in.

I am biased, but a beagle have some of the characteristics you are looking for. They don't lose much hair and they don't bark much. To keep it from being lonely I would recommend getting a second dog at some point.

As to a dog that is happy to be in a car for hours - it is generally not related to breed. I have 2 beagles - one gets car sick and the other loves the car.

aol used to have a great one. Don't know if they still have it.

It had a questionaire and at the end it would tell you which dogs were compatible for your family.
