What are some home remedies for dogs with ear pain?

I have a pointer mix that I picked up from the pound 2 weeks ago. He had ear pains, so I gave him a human pain pill. It seemed to do the trick, but 2 days later he was vomiting. The vomiting stopped after a day, and he was alright. However, his ear pain came back just now and he's whining a lot. I don't know if it was the human pain pill that made him vomit, but I don't want to take the risk. I can't take him to the vet because I can't afford it (I don't even have health insurance for myself). What can I do at home to make his pain stop? He's whining a lot and he just wont shut the **** up. It's ******* annoying.

Ok don't give him human pain pills, it will cause the vomiting for future reference. Give him some Benadryl. it is about a mg per lb of dog. Should help irritation and swelling, Clean the ear with witch hazel, you can get it at any family dollar or grocery store, then use a non scented baby powder to keep the ear dry. Most likely it is an ear infection. Never use alcohol. Continue this everyday, and also every other day lightly swab his ear with antibiotic ointment then a light coating of baby powder. Continue with the Benadryl for the week also. If it worsens or shows no improvement try and find a vet who is reasonable to give you ear drop or an antibiotic. Good luck

Your dog is in pain because of an ear infection. Giving him painkillers is not just irresponsible, it won't get rid of the infection.



If the infection gets really bad, it could spread to the blood and the dog will die of septicemia. It sounds like he has had the infection for a while, untreated.



Medication for ear infections is not expensive. Perhaps call a vet and explain your dilemma - they may sell you the medication without you paying for a full consultation.



Although there are home remedies on the internet, if the infection is as bad as it sounds, a home remedy may not be strong enough.



At this stage of the infection, I can only recommend talking to a vet. If you can't do that, then you will need to return the dog to where you got it. You should seriously consider this anyway as it is clear you don't have the money to keep a dog happy and healthy. If you love the dog, ask whether you can realistically provide the best home for it - which includes high quality food, and medical care for the rest of its life.

Take him back to the pound before you kill him. Human pain medication is dangerous for dogs, that's why the dog was vomiting.



If you can't afford a vet visit you had no right to take the dog from the pound. You took him from a bad situation to a worse situation.



Pain medication does not get rid of ear infections.



Return the dog please. You are in no position to have a dog and if you keep up with the home remedies you kill him.



ADD: Whoever let you take this dog has a lot to answer for. This dog is going to suffer excruciating pain and will not be provided with vet care.

These pound should be more careful about releasing dogs to unsuitable people.

clean the ears and make sure they are dry infections don't clear up if the ear has moisture. I use a ear powder called R-7 you can buy it in Walmart it is a rosen powder to help with plucking hair out and it will dry up the ear. Sound like your dog has a real bad problem so do this everyday for 10 days. You can't just expect a antibiotic to work and that's all you need to do some work too.

If it's true that you can't afford the veterinary treatment your dog clearly needs (sell your computer?), take him straight back to where he came from so he goes to somebody who will. There is NO home remedy for whatever is going on, which can only be a guess in any case - as it can only be from anybody here.



You never ever give a dog human medication and yes, what happened afterwards could easily have been caused by doing that - or not!!



You have two options, assuming this isn't trolling -



1. Get him straight to a vet

2. Get him straight back to the pound.



If you can't afford veterinary treatment, when needed (and this may only be the start) you can't afford to keep a dog. Period.



ps Inner ear infections can result in death.

You cant give your dog anything he needs a vet if you cant afford health insurance for your self why did you get a dog as a dog will need a vet .

My advice is take this dog to a humane society and hand it over its in so much pain its heart breaking to read your letting this dog suffer .

Please don't put anything in your dogs ears. It will only make it worse. Do you have an electric blanket or an electric throw blanket? Your dog can lay with his ear on the blankets and the warmth will help with the pain.

He needs antibiotics. That's the only way that his ears will heal. But if he had an electric blanket that he could cuddle up in and put his ears under the blanket, that will help.
