Need to find a soft coated wheaten terrier rescue that will allow adopters to have an invisible fence.?

I have been to several Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier rescue sites but they have a rule against adopting out dogs to homes that have an invisible fence (which is what I have). Does anyone know how I can adopt a Soft Coated Wheaten from a rescue that does not have this restriction? I am interested in adopting a female wheaten that needs a home.

It's great that you're looking to rescue a Wheatie. We cherished our Calley for all of her 14 years. But with their fearless territorial tendencies, I'm not sure I'd chance an invisible fence especially with a rescue dog whose background and previous experiences with people and other dogs are unknown.



We were also careful not to leave Calley out alone in our (fenced in) yard, as a champion Wheaten breeder friend counciled us that there are many people who would love to have a Wheaten terrier of their own.

The problem is not the rescue but your choice of fence. I understand that some community's do not allow metal, vinyl or wood fencing but if the power goes out, the batteries die or another animal comes on your property your dog is no longer safe. Besides the fact that many a dog, even the tiny ones will take the correction and escape the yard. One of my customers just lost their male Chia because he didn't respect the invisible fence. Maybe you can fence a portion of your property? that might make most rescues more willing to adopt.

Or another option might be to contact SCWT breeders and let them know your interested in a rescue. Lots of good breeders work to help dog of their breed of choice even if they didn't breed the dog themselves.

Those fences don't keep out other dogs or people. Many dogs learn to run right through them. They are not a reliable, safe way to contain your dog. Throw the invisable fence in the garbage and put up a real fence.



I wouldn't sell a puppy to someone who has one of those either, nor would any of the breeders I know.

No I don't know how to adopt without this restriction. I do shih tzu rescue and it's for the dogs safety. These "fences" don't keep other dogs and people from entering your dogs area and it's simply not safe or acceptable.



You can try your local humane society, SPCA or animal rescue league as you might luck out and find one there.
