Your dog is a border collie. A sheepdog can refer to several different types of dogs that were bred for herding sheep. The border collie is one of those.

There are breeds of dog with sheepdog in their name, for instance the Shetland sheepdog. But this doesn't mean your dog isn't considered a sheepdog as well.

That depends on whether or not he is registered with the KC as a Border Collie or not!

Techincally, there is no difference. The breed (Border Collie) was only recognised by the Kennel Club in the UK in 1976 by borrowing the International Sheedog Society Stud Books to set a registry. Only dogs that were previously ISDS registered were accepted as "Border Collies" by the Kennel Club initially.

Since then, if your dog's parents are KC registered then your dog can be registered as Border Collie also. However, the ISDS still call them Working Sheepdogs! Confused?? lol

There are still a lot of unregistered "Sheepdogs" around, both on farms and bred by backyard breeders. There are also a lot of dogs on the Activity register that are not eligible for full "Border Collie" status so are recorded as working sheepdogs there also.

Hope this helps!

I would venture to guess she is either a Border Collie or a BC mix....... As for the differences between a Sheepdog and a Border Collie: It really all depends on what breed of Sheepdog you are referring to.... Are we talking Old English, Belgian, Catalonian, Cão Da Serra de Aries ( Portuguese breed) Icelandic ???? As you can see there are a number of breeds with Sheepdog in their name. These are just a few.

Every Border Collie is a sheepdog, but not every sheepdog is a Border Collie. "Sheepdog" can refer to any breed of dog that is designed to herd or guard livestock, especially sheep. It's a very general term, and it encompasses herding breeds (like Border Collies and Australian Shepherds) as well guardian breeds (like Anatolian Shepherds and Old English Sheepdogs). So, yes, your Border Collie is a sheepdog. He just isn't one of the sheepdog breeds with "sheepdog" in their name, like the Old English Sheepdog, Maremma Sheepdog, so on and so forth.

Well, where I live, Barnes and Nobles has a much better atmosphere. Borders is located in the mall and is basically just a book store. It's pretty small compared to Barnes & Nobles. The B&N has two floors with better organization of books, a huge selection to look through, and helpful, friendly employees who know their stuff. B&N also has a starbucks!! So you can grab a coffee while relaxing with your favorite book or magazine. Barnes & Nobles is the perfect place to go to study or just chill. But for some odd reason, I can't picture myself spending a lot of time at Borders. I would probably go there just to quickly buy a book. It may just be the difference in locations?

There is no difference, your dog is commonly known as a border collie (which is also called a sheepdog, as they are bred to herd sheep),which are often used for herding sheep. There are shetland sheepdogs which are commonly used for keeping sheep away from crops, but these are often referred to as miniature collies.

Proper training and socialization are some of your dog's most basic needs. Learn how to set a basic foundation before you begin to train your dog https://tr.im/H6FOU

At first, dog training can seem pretty overwhelming, especially if this is your first dog. Truth be told, training your dog is a very big project. However, if you take it step by step, you will find the task to be far less daunting.
