I Breed Chihuahuas. Not teacup - the standard up to 6 pound range. A little secret for those who HAVE to HAVE a TEACUP -the teacups are typically inbred!! BADLY!! Thats one reason for all the health issues associated with them. They take the tiny daddy and breed it to the runt daughter- or vise versa. I don't practice this- I detest this, as a reputable breeder myself when dealing with potential owners when they ask if my Chi-babies are "teacup". I tell them truth about the so callled teacup, but sadly through unnatural means "teacups" do exist, just as hillbillies marry their cousins. LOL

The only reason why breeders use the word "teacup" "pocket" "imperial" anything to emphasis on the small size of what is smaller than the standard size for that breed is to make even more money off that puppy. A teacup yorkie should cost no less than a standard size yorkie.

nope, only place to get a teacup is in a china shop. As far as all the tiny chihuahuas or any breed being sickly, that isn't always the truth. I sold a 4 1/2 month old pup that only weighed one lb. She was very healthy and still is 3 yr later. Her mom was 7 lb, her dad was 3. Her adult weight is 2.2 lb

The word T-cup has been around for a long time it has just become more popular now, I have seen a drop in large breed dogs in the 21 years of being in the pet business . More people are looking into the small breeds they are easier to take around, more and more stores as well with out door restaurants are allowing small breed dogs.
Along with Hollywood and there little purse dogs people want that so this brings out the BYB they know this and market off of it.. They slap the name T-cup this is more interesting to that person looking for a small little dog..
Stay away from any breeder that uses the word T-cup, the dogs are not healthy, you can't keep breeding dogs that little and expect them to be healthy, they have brittle little bones that snap like tooth picks and a load of health problems not to mention the price they want for those dogs

No, "teacups" do not exist. They are sickly runts bred by BYBs who are just trying to make money. As a matter of fact, these dogs are usually grow up to be normal sized and in the breeds standard but due to bad breeding these dogs rarely live to be 2 years old and will cost you a fortune in medical bills.

My understanding is that there's no such thing as teacup breeds, just dogs that have been breed with genetic abnormalities to be small in size...

To get a "teacup" dog, you take the smallest dog from a puppy litter, and another smallest one from a different litter, mate them, and then there is are smaller puppies. You take the smallest puppy from that already small litter and find another smallest puppy from a different small litter, and mate them. By continuing this pattern, you get smaller an smaller puppies through each generation and that is how teacups are "made". They are "runts" that are taken from each litter and mated together.
They are cute, but have shorter life spans and are very sickly.

No there is no such thing..Your right =]
They are poorly bred runts that bad breeders pass off as some rare line of chihuahua/yorkie/ etc.

i think they do exist. for example, there are teacup yorkies. they are much smaller than other yorkies. and the teacup breed have much shorter lifespans that regular breeds. i'm not sure about the teacup chihuahua though. i've never heard of that one.
