Ok so i have an adult male great dane. He is beautiful, and i love him just the way he is but I'm planning on neutering him soon. The problem I'm having is once hes neutered his balls will be gone and i really dislike seeing balls missing on male dogs. Im considering getting him testicle implants. Ive talked to a vet that specializes in this in L.A and he said neuticles would cost around $250-350 just for implants and surgery. I was wondering if i should go through with this? And if any of you have done this if so had there been any complication having this done? Will my dog know the difference like will he know his real balls are missing?

First, the dog won't know or care if he loses his balls. I've had lots of dogs and cats neutered and all of them were fine.

As for neuticles, I don't know anyone personally who used them, but if it's important to you to see your dog with balls, the one thing your dog WILL notice is if your attitude towards him changes. So if that's a possibility, go for it.

Neuticles can be inserted at the same as the testicles are removed and it takes only a couple of minutes, so that's not a big concern. According to this article by a vet (who has implanted neuticles at clients' requests, even though she thinks it's silly herself):

"the rate of complications is impressively low (less than 1 percent) and these complications are fully reversible."

It's your dog and your money. If it makes you feel better about him, get the neuticles. The dog himself won't care one way or the other.

You could always just not look at the missing balls. Before I read this question I've never heard of someone getting ball implants for their dog... but I'll try to answer this honestly.

IT's a surgery. A cosmetic surgery at that. It can get infected, or it might not. If it gets infected your dog would potentially not be able to have the implants. Then you'd be out $250-350.

He might recognize that they are implants, if they are to hard it might make it uncomfortable to sit, if they are to soft they might not look like male dog balls (and then you might not be happy with it and you would have wasted $250-350)

He might be allergic to the implant. This could cause A LOT of issues.

You like looking at your dog's balls flopping about?

or is this a masculinity issue. You feel that neutering him will emasculate him. Or worse, neutering him is like neutering yourself.

Get over it. A dog is not a human. He doesn't give a flip if he's got balls. He KNOWS he's male, its a deep rooted part of his very being. He doesn't need a pair of hairy avocados hanging from his groin to tell him he's male. Other dogs won't think he's less of a male, or make fun of him. They will smell the lack of testosterone and move on. Big whoop.

You are placing far more value on your dog's nuts than he does. He licks them when they itch, that's about as far as his thoughts go. A male dog doesn't know what they are for or what they represent to a human.

and you know what's worse? If your dog were to become a stray and end up in a shelter, they would put him through the neutering procedure all over again. Only to find a pair of silicone lumps in his scrotum. And they'll sit there, bewildered and confused that someone would stick a pair of fake nards in their neutered dog.

Neuter the dog, don't give him fake nuts.

You must be a guy. I would NEVER spend one penny for fake balls. If you dislike seeing missing balls, then you should have bought a b*tch instead of a dog. Your dog won't care if he's castrated anyway, so therefore he sure as h*ll won't care if he has fake ones or not. Just for the record, it you're a responsible owner, you don't have to have him castrated at all, but since you're worried about getting fake balls, I would suggest that you do have him castrated and not worry about whether people will think he's a she. He still has a penis.

Complete waste of money. The dog won't care one way or another. This ridiculous idea is for the benefit of the owner, not the dog. If someone spends time watching their dogs balls, real or fake, they are the one with a problem, not the dog.

You are wasting money over something that could be use for yourself on other things. It's simple neuter your dog if you want him fixed or don't fix him at all. Getting fake balls for a dog is not a good idea and I never knew they could do that.

Funny, I dislike seeing balls on a dog. He might notice his real balls are missing and have been replaced or maybe not, who could say.

Your dog could CARE LESS!! You seriously would force your dog to go under anesthesia and risk DYING just so you can see fake balls swinging under him? WOW. Shame on you. It's not YOUR balls that are being snipped but maybe they should be so you don't breed, either!

you would be better off investing the $350 in some counseling to deal with your unhealthy attachment to testicles ... no you should not insert foreign bodies into your dog cuz you have issues ... fix your dog and then fix yourself ...
