My dog is exhibiting very strange behavior for about a week now.

When I put food out to feed her, she comes to eat, but then instantly lowers her back, scoots her butt down, runs away, makes a U-Turn and comes back to the food. She does that a few times before she eats, and she will do it maybe a couple more times during eating.

She does not do it otherwise, except when I put food out. She is 6 yrs old and has NEVER acted this way.

Some more background, two weeks ago she had her annual vaccines and she had her annual DEWORMING.

Last week prior to this behavior starting, I took her to the groomers.

Why is she acting this way? Is it a parasite? Why only during feeding?

Itchy behind. I would check with a vet to see if she needs another deworming.

(Submissive behavior does not include rubbing the butt on the floor...lol...damn, people. Generally, submissive behavior in females is not making eye contant, some distinctive cowering, and butt wiggling, tail wagging and begging body language.....not butt scooting.

If she's scooting her boot, her boot itches. Yes, worms can spread to humans, but it's not likely unless you're playing with her poop and I'm assuming you're not doing that, right? lol..

Heartworm and flea meds should not cause this behavior. It could just be a weird habit your dog picked up, but I would still get a stool sample to the vet. Sometimes deworming gets rid of the adult worms but eggs or larvae can still remain in the intestinal track, so a second deworming is necessary. It won't hurt to let the vet know.

it only happens when feeding? Try raising the food dish see if this helps, if it does you know that there may be an issue with her back. And this can happen at anytime. It could have happened at the groomers, or just playing around at home.

I really dont think it has to do with the anal gland because it only happens during feeding but after you raise the dish and if she is still doing it i would get her checked, there could be the possibility that the anal sac is full and the groomer didnt do it( some only do it if asked to) or when the anal gland was done it got ruptured. Sometimes this can happen it is not intentional, some times the dog pulls away or sits as the groomer is doing it and this can cause the rupture.

If it is the back i would ask the groomer if the dog jumped from the tub, or off the table. Hopefully that did not happen but if it did they should have told you when you picked her up.
