hi. ia have a 7 month old black&tan jack russell terrier, he is growing really tall. he is already15inches(38cm) tall. i just wondered if jack Russell's can be so tall. i spoke to the breeder and she assured me that he is definitely a jack russell. and his mum and dad are pure jack Russell's as well.it is a mystery.

Just because he's tall doesn't mean he isn't pure. If he goes over 15 inches you won't be able to register him though.

Next time you speak to the breeder, ask her how tall the parents are. He probably inherited his height from them.

Just because a dog has horrible conformation, or is tall, or short.. doesn't mean they aren't/can't be pure. It could mean they aren't pure, or it could also mean they inherited bad traits from their parents.

All of our Jrts are with in the registerable height limit. However, some people like bringing their unregisterable terriers anyways to compete in agility and other things. I once met a full blood Jack that was a total of 17 inches tall.

However, I see where you put he was black and tan. No white? At all? The standard requires for your terrier to be at least 51% white to be registerable. And if he has no white at all.. theres a high chance that he could be a mix. Because quality or not, most Jrts do have white somewhere on them.

Hope that helps! Have a great day!

Breed standard for a Jack Russell is between 10 and 15 inches so he is still within the boundaries and at 7 months old he may not grow any taller. You say he is black and tan but Breed Standard for a Jack Russell is mostly white. A lot of people are now selling Jack Russells which vary a lot from what originally a Jack Russell was like, however if you are happy with him what does it matter. Have a look here

The problem with Jack Russells is that, to many people, any small terrier is a Jack Russell, regardless of type, colour or conformation. The term "Jack Russell" is often used to describe a "type" rather than a breed. Many people do not realise there is actually a breed standard which describes a typical JR. I wonder how many generations back his breeder can trace with their "pure" Jack Russells?

If you breed two tall jack russell's together, you will get a taller jack russell. The way they got them to be short in the first, place is through years of breeding the short ones together. Someone probably wasn't the most skilled at breeding, and your taller dog is the result.

Yes that is completely normal. I too have a jack but I have a short legged jack. He is short and stocky (very cute) It all depends on what breed of Jack you have. Those little bundles of energy come in all shapes and sizes.

some jack russles grow taller than others. That also happens to other dogs like boston terriers. They probably have ansesters that were tall. Big dogs are cute and fun to play with(:

well you can have a large jack russell if he is a pedigree then you can look up his family history. You can see if he has had large jack's in his history. if you don't have papers for your dog then it is highly possible that you have a mutt..

Puppies that are too tall or too small is just a result of bad breeding.

Do you have a recent picture you can post? I can better tell you if I had a picture. If not, that's cool.
