i,ve had Jade for about 15 yrs, To me she still looks the same maybe a little bigger. she still prances around like a stallion but i don't think she knows how old she is she will not eat mixer with her food but she has as many biscuit treats as she wants, If a dog is treated and loved properly she will live as long as you do give them everything they deserve and they will be companions for life .

The latest medical consensus on this is that the first year of the dogs life is equal to 12 1/2 human years and the second also after that add 4 years for each year. ( eg: a 3 year old dog would be 29 in human years, a 4 year old 33 etc.) Sorry about the previous one I am listening to the super tuesday results while answering it. LOL

It says on the site: It is a common belief that 1 human year is equal to 7 dog years. That is not very accurate, since dogs reach adulthood within the first couple of years. The formula used above is from a canine expert and is a bit more accurate. (as accurate as one can judge these things)
The formula is: 10.5 dog years per human year for the first 2 years, then 4 dog years per human year for each year after.

if the dog is one year old, hes 7 years old in dogs years. if the dog is 2 years old, hes 14 years old in dog years. Just count the years the dog is in human years, then multiply that number by 7.

A DOGS 1 YEAR IS HUMANS 7 YEARS SO IF YOUR DOGS 3 REALLY IT'S 21

actually the whole seven years thing is a complete and total lie. vets now say that the first two years of a dogs life is like 25 years and then every year after counts as 4 years so a 5 year old dog would be 40 years in dog years

I used to always hear 1 year = 7 years, but recently I've been told that it runs more like this
1 years = 12 years
2years= 20 years and 3 years =25 years.
After that each year is about 3 years.
so that a 5 year old dog would be around 31 years
And that all changes given the size of the dog
i.e. smaller dogs - more time and larger dogs = less time
I hope I explained this correctly because it made a bunch of sense to me after my Friend told me.

a dog year is 7x a human year so if they are 1 in our years they are7 in dog years, 2=14, and so on i hope this helps

They mature in a year. So that's 21 to a human.
After that it's 7 each year.
So a dog that's been around 5 years is 49.
Of course, it depends on the breed and size, so not all dogs are middle-age at 5 years. Smaller dogs tend to live longer.

There is no correct, definite formula for figuring out a dog's age in dog years. All dogs live different lifespans. Smaller breeds can have DOUBLE the lifespan of a larger breed.

I'm not sure how they calculated that a dog's seven years is equivilent to our one. However i do understand that like most mamals, a puppie's first year counts as double that (14)...
How do they work it out tho???
