I have welsh corgi pembroke, I have tried to feed him Purina Pro plan "Lamb and rice) for first few weeks and after I first visit my vet and bought Eukanuba Puppy Chiot (chicken) as the receptionist said is one of the best puppy food available.

Are these two brand good? what is the best puppy food suitable for my corgi? please advise (and my puppy won't really eat any dry food)

I'm not fussed about either of those brands of food. Pro Plan is better than Eukanuba.

Vet's don't know much about nutrition because they don't study it. Receptionists know even less. They will recommend whatever they have in stock. Vets stock only mediocre brands of dog food. I wouldn't feed my dogs any of the brands of food my vet sells.

IMO the best food available in Australia is Artemis, Eagle Pack Holistic or Canidae. There are a few other good foods as well but I'm not familiar with them. The brands I mentioned all have a grain free variety of foods in their products.

Go to www.dogfoodanalysis.com and learn about dog food.

There is a company in Australia that delivers orders of any size to the eastern states for $5 per order. I've used them a couple of times and their customer service is brilliant. The website is www.pookinuk.com.au.

ADD: Jen, All those brands you mentioned except Innova are not available in Australia. Innova is available but the only place who has a license to sell it is a well known chain of pet stores who sell puppy farm dogs so most serious dog owners won't purchase anything from their stores.

Artemis is available from the larger pet warehouses as I mentioned in my reply.

Eukanuba and Purina are both low quality foods.

I am in the US and I honestly don't know what is available to you in Australia. I have a few Australian contacts so I will star. Also, check out this website: http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com look for something rated 3 stars or above that you can buy in Australia.

Good brands I know I can get here in the US are: Artemis, Acana, Orijen, Wellness, EVO/Innova, Blue Buffalo, Taste of the Wild, Merrick, and many more.

@Moondog~ Good to know. I never know what is available in other countries. I know Orijen used to be, but the there was the issue with the government wanting to irradiate, but then there was an issue with radiation still in the food...and one way or another, the food was recalled and isn't available anymore.

Go for Canidae All Life Stages - it's what I feed my dogs (I live in Australia also)

Here's their website to find a stockist close to you:

http://www.canidae.com.au

Another good food is Eagle Pack Holistic Selects - i used to source this when I fed it at PetStock stores.

The hard time we Aussies have being able find a good quality food sickens me.

We can also get Innova, EVO and California Naturals but Pets Paradise has bought exclusive rights to sell these foods and I refuse to support a pet shop that still sells puppies and kittens.

There are trainging techniques that you can use. Learn here https://tr.im/chP70

HEEL:

1. A dog straining on the lead is the result of improper early heel-training. Reinstruction will be required to remedy the fauly.

2. Correct positioning ensures that the dog can anticipate the owner's actions such as a change in direction, sudden stop or new instruction.

3. A lagging dog can also indicates bad heel training. Frequent sharp tugs on the check chain should encourage the dog to keep up with its owner.

SIT:

1. On the command 'sit', press the dog's hindquarters firmly down with your left hand while keeping the dog's head supported in the air.

2. Keep the lead taut in the right hand, giving it a slight upwards pull as you press the hindquarters down to help the dog respond.

3. Crouching down beside, but not over, the dog may prove helpful in teaching more unruly dogs to perform the exercise.

SIT STAY:

1. Pul the dog in the sit position by holding your hand up in front of the dogs face and giving the command ' sit' in a firm voice.

2. Then move in the front of the dog jerking on the check chain if any attempt is made to move. If the dog does move, start agian.

3. Keeping your hand high up in front of the dog, and repeating the command 'stay', back off bit by bit, increasing the space between you.

SPEAK:

1. Tell the dog to speak, if he doesnt, the owner must bark to encourage the dog to bark

2. soon enough the dog will bark

I raised my Bernese on Eukanuba "Large Breed Puppy Growth" in accordance with breeder recommendations - I'm in the Adelaide Hills area and had to get it ordered in, you may find a place that stocks it if you're closer to town. Most of the brands listed in an earlier post are only availble in the US. I'd suggest you read a few of the articles available on the web, and start reading labels. Also check your contract from the breeder - there my be a clause in there requiring you to follow their feeding recommendation or risk voiding any guarantees in the contract.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://biturl.im/aU5qH

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

My breeder feed my puppy Purina for puppies (chicken one) and the vet said because it has colours it causes bad breath and food for young puppies is essential because that is when there hair grow (decideds whethere it wuill b smooth or rough) and when there bines develop. My puppy had horrible breath before when he was eating Purona and now we feed him Nutro (a brand from New Zealand) and its GREATTT!! My pup loves it and it comes in packs for small breeds, large breeds or medium breeds. Its a great pack but costs a bit more than Purina but its healtheir

All brands contain the right nutrients; it's just a matter of what your puppy likes.

You can also make your own puppy food. Google or ask your vet. It's more trouble, but tastes better!
