i have two siberian huskies. they do shed alot and when they are shedding it sometimes sheds in patches and it is a lot of work. we go to one particular groomer (not pet smart or anything) and a few years back we were pretty consistalnt on getting them done, we probably went every 3 months and she charged 45 per dog. since then finances have become tight we have narrowed it down to about once or twice a year. the groomer makes comments on how bad they are shedding and somehow over the past few years the price has gone from 45 to 65 to 85 and last time she charged 100$ and that was the most she has charged. now we got them groomed yesterday and she charged 120 per dog and i have 2 dogs i had to come up with 240! im thinking this is getting way out of hand! its like she is punishing us for not getting the dogs groomed on HER time. its not like i dont want to get my dogs done every 3 months, if i could afford it that would be great but i cant. and i cant be coming up with 240 when petsmart and other places charge no more than 60 per dog... any how my question is this, Am i being taken advantage of and what is typical cost for grooming 2 siberian huskies?

i pay $70 per visit to get 2 yorkies groomed.

my groomers fees: regular customer with a small breed: $35 per visit

regular customers with a large breed: $50

non regulars with a small breed: $45

non regulars with a large breed: $85

to be a regular you must have your dog groomed once every quarter(every 3 months)

It's not a case of the groomer punishing you. That's absolutely ridiculous. The grooming needed when your dogs go in every 3-4 months is far less than 1-2 yearly. You probably find that she's spending nearly twice the time that she does when grooming them on a regular basis.

This is what a dog groomer charges in Glendale, Arizona. Although you never mentioned the weight of your dogs, you'll notice that your groomer charges the same for a full groom.

(under 50lbs)

Bath and Brush $60

Mini Groom $70

Full Groom $80

(50lbs - 79lbs)

You have made it harder on the groomer by going less often. Going every 3 months, the groomer was able to keep the shedding under control and it would take less time to do each dog. Now, it is probably a good 2-3 hours per dog. If a groomer only works 7- 8 hours, she might be able to do 1 other dog that day compared to 5-6 she might be able to do otherwise. She needs to make enough money to live on and your dogs are taking up her time.

Even if she only charged you $60 (that is average for a small dog hair cut), you could get them done twice a year for the same cost.

If you want to be able to keep the costs down, you either need to take them in more often to keep up with it or do a lot more on your own. Brush them out weekly at least and even ask the groomer what tools and techniques are good to help reduce the shedding.

In my opinion that is too expensive. I have a Siberian Husky as well and I just take her to PetSmart and she gets a cut for like 50 dollars at the most. They do a good job with her too.
