I've seen a lot of dog shows but I’ve never had a chance to ask a handler or a judge why the GSD is not stacked square like all other breeds. If you look at them they stack the back legs apart, the leg closest to the judge is pulled back and the leg closest to the handler is pulled forward. I know this makes the dog look more "crouched" or in my opinion more crippled.
Why not stack the dog square like all other breeds of dogs? It's the canine equitant of Tennessee Walker Horse, where the horse's rear end is stretched out, making the horse look very long.

German Shepherds are suposed to be an atheletic breed. Constantly moving while hearding their flocks. By stacking them like that they're trying to get the "looks like im moving when im not" kind of thing.

And to be compleatly honest with you, German Shepherds with show bloodlines ARE crippled. They're bred to have a retardly curved back which in turn affects their hips by makeing them smaller and incapable of producing a strong forward drive. GSD with show lines cannot move well because of this back they breed for now which disgusts me... a true GSD should be able to trot in a feild all day with no issues but then you look at a show GDS they can hardly keep their back legs from going out from under them. Look up how the breed has changed over the years... you will be as frustrated as I am. People have distroyed this breed along with many others. Have you ever seen a police GSD with a stupid curved back like the ones in a show? no? Thats because those dogs are useless when it comes to anything that requires it to move freely and with power.

CKC and AKC have changed their standards over the years to keep up with what people were creating this breed to become.

and if you further your research in german shepherds you will see that there are a few breeders left that have "working" bloodlines... the Working German Shepherd has a straight back, are usually smaller, are much more mentally stable, are less prone to hip and elbow issues because they dont have an unnatural body shape, are extreamly fast moving, have more of a squareish head which makes the jaws more capable of holding onto a bite sleeve/suspect... its basically like a totally different breed. But they're the true old-fashion german shepherds.
