My little 8 year old male dachshund is hosting a female pit-bull/beagle who is in FULL HEAT My little guy is in such pain. Is there ANYTHING that will help him to not smell the pheromones? Ben-Gay? Valium? Moving one is not an option., darnit. And should nature take it's course what would you call the puppies? Bulldauchles?

Neutering your dog is by far the best option! But until then, you can start by putting dog panties on the female. They keep from making a bloody mess and make it a little more difficult for the male to breed. Also, you can put one (or both) of them in a crate when you aren't there to supervise. Not directly next to each other as they can breed through bars! You can also put Vick's Vapor Rub at the base of his nose and around her rear end. It's harmless if they lick it off, and it has such a powerful odor that it will help distract him from the smell. There should be no *IF* nature takes it's course, by being a good owner you should never let them be together for any period of time, and take the care to neuter or spay one of them to prevent further situations like this.

Do NOT let nature take its course. There are so many unwanted dogs, both pure and mixed breeds, and more all the time as foreclosures increase. Call your vet and see if there is anything that could curtail her heat, or wait it out and have the poor girl spayed. Have your dachshund neutered too. You might try sedating him - valium works well in dogs, but talk to a vet first.

Both need to be neutered. There is a huge population of unwanted pets because irresponsible owners don't get their pets neutered. Call your local animal shelter and ask how many dogs and cats they have there at the moment, and how many they have to put down every year. If you're not neutering your pets, you're part of the problem.

There is absolutely no reason for the pit/beagle mix to be intact, she should absolutely be spayed. As for your 8 yo male dachshund, he should be neutered also. For the meantime, you need to keep them completely seperated, send him to a family or friends home if necessary.

BTW the offspring of a mating from the dachsie and the pit/beagle mix would be called Mutts, Mixbreeds, Mongrels.

a minimum of your canines survived. I easily have a 4 pound chihuahua, and she or he ate almost a million/2 of a toberone chocolote bar, at christmas time, and a few christmas goodies, all that she ate replace into by using my sister leaving them on the settee. i replace into paniking so badly, because of the fact she replace into having a variety of extra healthy. I even made her drink salt and milk (because of the fact i understand she likes milk, no longer that i feed it too her) , it replace right into a mirical that she drank it. She replace into ill everywhere for a pair of day and a a million/2, yet while she did no longer she probally could of died. Now i determine, there is not any chocolate everywhere she will attain. I additionally suggestion that to each physique eles who has canines. some thing unusual however, my freinds mums canines, replace right into a splash yorkie. She used to ALLWAYS supply her canines chocolate, and coco pops from the left overs of the youngsters. i exploit to tell her it replace into posioness yet she fed her it nevertheless. however the canines lived till it replace into approximately 14. it is bizarre how some canines and purely bypass away at like one bar, and a few do no longer. besides you have been fortunate!

They would be called "I have a stupid, irresponsible owner that wouldn't take care of me" dogs.

Get a grip and get responsible and educated.

Get your dog fixed.

And quit adding to the problem of overpopulation.

Put them in seperate rooms for goodness sake and get your dog neutered.

Male dogs can smell females in heat from miles away, nothing is going to mask it.

You do NOT want the female to get pregnant.

Neuter, of course is the best answer. And DON'T let "nature take its course" as it's YOUR responsibilty to make sure that doesn't happen.

Put some Vix under his nose, it will help a bit.

Sorry, that's what we have to put up with when we choose to keep intact males around b*tches in season.

And should nature take it's course, I'd call it "irresponsible and careless".

You would call the pups poorly breed mutts who's owners did not care enough about the parents to get them fixed. Nothing will help your dog except getting him fixed. Your dog is not in pain he is just reacting to the Female and if you know this little about breeding you need to get them both fixed ASAP.

I think you should get him neudered because then he can't have babies, and also he gets calm. Thats what people do to either make them calmer or so then he cant get the female pregnant.
