Question:
How to stop my male dog from being in heat and trying to mate with my female dog?
2018-10-26 15:09:24 UTC
So about 7 months ago i moved back home and i had a new pup. My old dogs are all males but they just didn’t like her because she was a puppy but they grew to tolerate her. The first time i got her groomed, the other two male dogs didn’t care, but my dog Shiloh did. He got all crazy and wanted to mate with her. She was still a baby. Eventually he grew out of it after telling him it was wrong and keeping them separated. However, 3 weeks ago my baby girl met Mother Nature lol so she was bleeding and we had pampers for her. The week she got off, Shilo went back to being crazed. He attacked the other male dogs, my aunt and is acting out just bc he can’t mate with my dog. We’ve been keeping them separated but it’s seems unfair to both dogs. What else can i do to make him go back to being normal??

Listen Brianna - you have no clue in what you're doing. You should never have gotten a dog because you know so little about them. Since you already have a dog, get to the library or vet and learn what you need to do.

For God's sake what are you doing! Get your males neutered and females spayed! That is the ONLY way to stop it and prevent much frustration and also prevents CANCER! They will be healthier for it! If you can't afford, there are spay / neuter programs! Ask your local animal control/shelter! Don't add to pet overpopulation. Over 5,ooo animals are killed per DAY because of overpopulation ( in US alone) !!! Around 4 million a year! Get them all fixed. It is the responsible and kind thing to do and your dogs will be happier and healthier!!!

If you have to ask a question like this then you have no business breeding canines.Spay and neuter all of the dogs, they will be happier and healthier for it. No fighting, someone is going to get hurt or killed with all of the raging hormones, human and animal alike.

I am starting to get used to the ignorance's I find on here. Why was she allowed to go to a neighbors & breed? You said you were going to breed her to a friends dog, well, guess what, she has already been bred at the neighbors.

People who breed their pets are known as "Backyard Breeders"/"BYBers". The dogs they breed are the very same thing you'll find in any pound, shelter or rescue. Why pay the price for you pups when I can adopt the very same thing for far less than you are selling for.

A BYBer is a low life, ignorant, scamming, lying just to sell their crappy dogs. That they don't give a damn about. You are not doing anything to better a breed, you are just replicating junk dogs. Why would any one want to pay you more than $25 for a mutt? Adopt & save a life. Don't add to the already over crowded, over populated pounds, shelters or rescues. I won't ever buy from a BYBer, I would adopt. I will not pad your pocket. & the reasons you are breeding for are not viable reasons to breed.

Lots & lots & lots of problems caused by BYBers & Puppy Mills.

Male dogs don't go into "heat". If you want him to stop acting like an oversexed maniac, you have him neutered and her spayed.

Male dogs dont go into heat.. They are "ready to go" at all times.

Its females that go into heat.

While being a coward and hiding behind the Anonymous bowler-hatted blue-face, [Brianna] asked:

● "How to stop my male dog from being in heat and trying to mate with my female dog?"

● "So about 7 months ago i moved back home and i had a new pup. My old dogs are all males but they just didn’t like her because she was a puppy but they grew to tolerate her. The first time i got her groomed, the other two male dogs didn’t care, but my dog Shiloh did. He got all crazy and wanted to mate with her. She was still a baby. My responses (those with a 💥 need your reply added as an Update to your Question) in sequence are:

🤢1: Males don't go "in heat" - but as of about 4 months old they sure do RESPOND TO a bỉtch being on-heat!

🤢2: ANYONE who proposes to keep a dog and a ***** have 3 solutions:

(a) Neuter one or both genders.

(b) Build a concrete-floored escape-proof & mating-proof roofed pen + raised sleeping box per pooch.

(c) Pay a boarding kennel to keep one or both genders in a mating-proof situation until the heat is definitely ended.

WARNING: A bỉtch I'd sold came on-heat and was isolated from their male for 28 days (a "heat" is normally finished by day 21). On day 30 she mated the buyers stud; she became pregnant and produced a litter.

💥3:Does "moved back home" mean that you chose to leave the flat and rejoin your mother? Or that your landlord booted you & your dogs out?

💥4: What does "The first time i got her groomed" have to do with "my dog Shiloh ... got all crazy and wanted to mate with her"?

🤢5: Your "my baby girl met Mother Nature lol" is NOT appropriate. She is NOT a baby (she might still be in the age range for Puppy, but in my nation "Baby Puppy" is for puppies aged 3 but less than 6 months old), not a girl (a girl is a female human - usually younger than 21 years), she did NOT meet "Mother Nature" - she responded to the flush of her own hormones - and your "lol" is inappropriate when used after a perfectly natural hormonal function as though it were amusing. You were plainly being prudishly prissy (see the Oxford dictionary).

🤢6: "Pampers" (NOTE that that proper noun, "stolen" from the verb "to pamper", requires a capital initial) are NOT suitable for dogs. At best, they prevent drips from landing on your lino. At worst they encourage the growth of organisms that result in pyometritus. They are RARELY adequate to prevent a stud from fertilising a bỉtch "on heat". LEARN what species and FUNCTION they are tailored for!

I do NOT approve of your attitude & language in your Comments to answerers.

🤢7: To Verulam you Commented

● "2. My mom wants to keep Gia (my dog) after i move out so she isn’t lonely; therefore i want her to breed with a male maltipoo so i can have one of her pups."

You DON'T KNOW ENOUGH to consider breeding from a pair of cross-breeds. A cross-breed x cross-breed often brings together the WORST from both previous breeds. Go research the various physical & genetic health test certificates that RESPONSIBLE breeders of Maltese require BOTH parents to possess before agreeing to a mating. Then research the various physical & genetic health test certificates that RESPONSIBLE breeders of ANY of the Poodle sizes require BOTH parents to possess before agreeing to a mating.

Being crosses of those 2 breeds (if you're lucky! - many "design-a-breed-name" pooches are actually FAR more mixed than the vendors admit to - sometimes more mixed than the ignorant careless BYBer even knows about), both Gia and the inappropriately named Shiloh (inappropriate because the now-dead breeder at Shiloh kennels used to mate together American-style "GSDs" and Alaskan Malamutes, with an occasional "secret" addition of other breeds - she lost her right to register litters with the AKC) BEFORE mating them BOTH Shiloh & Gia need every certificate listed for BOTH breeds. I'm assuming that you are a Yank, and so the AKC is your "proper" canine registry. A cross-breed CAN get registration with the AKC to do everything EXCEPT (a) compete as a BREED, and (b) have litters registered. So character tests and "health tests" and training tests (including such as Agility Champion, Obedience Champion) are not a problem - you CAN get them if you put the time into the training & practising.

Certificates for "health":

https://www.ofa.org/recommended-tests?breed=ML&var= for Maltese

https://www.ofa.org/recommended-tests?breed=PO&var=TOY for if ONLY the Toy Poodle is involved; there are also pages to check if a Mini Poodle or a Standard Poodle is involved.

By the way - search for: babynameshub.com/gendercompare.cfm?Name=

It will tell you that both Gia and Shiloh are exclusively FEMALE names in the USA.

BTW2: And make up your mind whether your pet is "Shilo" or "Shiloh".

● "Getting her spayed is out of the question."

💥8:Huh? WHY is it out of the question? Actually, your use of nappies makes it very likely that you will have NO CHOICE but to spay her when she develops pyometritis.

● "I’m not loving her permanently."

💥9:Huh again! What did you actually MEAN? And why haven't you developed the habit of CHECKING your typing before posting it? If you're old enough to have been out flatting or renting, you're old enough to have finished learning from those primary school teachers and secondary school teachers that were supplied for you.

● "3. They are separated. She stays in my room, he stays in my aunts room. I just don’t like having to keep them cooped up all day"

Nor do I. When INSIDE my house, my dogs have the run of every room except the couple I keep closed so that they can be used for people allergic to dog-dander. But your wording implies that your pets piddle & **** in those bedrooms. The only way to KEEP them IN a bedroom is to close the doors - but while they're closed no-one can SEE whether the pooches want to go toilet. Even if your dogs are trained to ring a bell beside the door of "its" room: You walking to & getting into that bedroom, putting the dog on-leash then opening the door and taking the dog outside, is almost CERTAIN to take longer than the dog can stay "holding on".

🤢You Commented to [Amos]:

● "But honestly if you google the question it’s literealt the first answer that pops up. I googled the question i asked so that’s where i got the vapor rub idea from. You put it in her tail to mask the scent. It does not harm the dog at all."

"google" ? "literalt" ? "googled" ? "i" ? And "i" again? "IN her tail" ?

CHECK your typing BEFORE you post it!

The on-line "answer" you refer to SHOULD have convinced you that the majority of "kids of all ages" in Y!A should NOT be pretending to have the experience & knowledge to ANSWER the questions!

YOUR imbecilic TRUST in Vicks Vapour Rub and someone's "Anti-Mating Powder" certainly convinced [Amos] and [Nekkid] that YOU don't know enough to judge the difference between factual evidence and advertised scams!

BELIEVE what [Amos] told you about the ability of dogs to DETECT all sorts of odours/scents. The pheromone issued by a bỉtch on heat is so strong that almost all humans (well, those who don't dowse themselves with perfumes, and don't have a severe nasal blockage) can detect it.

🤢You Commented to [*****] (a VERY foolish ID/username! to choose in Y!A !) or [Nekkid]'s Comment there:

● "Suck my dick hoe, her mom and dad are both Maltipoos lol then she was born with 5 other doggies that are all maltipoosssss I want her to have pups so i can have one that’s similar and related to her."

I've seen back-hoes, but what's a "dick hoe"? And why would anyone want to suck it?

People with the name [Brianna] aren't supposed to have a "my dick" - although people NAMED Dick should have one.

And if you were calling [Nekkid] a "whore" (the word "hoe" might be patois in your suburb, but it has a REAL meaning for people who need to move soil & weeds), she & others are fully entitled to report you.

You, kid, have a LOT to learn about DISCUSSING and MANNERS!

As for a mating between cross-breeds being "similar to her": Dream on. I wonder which aspects you want their pup to be "similar to" - attitude? behaviour? character? chest depth? coat colour? coat length? coat pattern? determination? endurance? gait? height? length? weight?

To get THAT much in, I've had to removed my responses to your Comments to [Takarri], to [granny], to [Beverly].

You really need to THINK about the purpose of ASKING questions.

It SHOULD be to obtain information that you either didn't already know, or that you had sort-of-heard but weren't sure about its validity.

Simple. Spay the female when she's off her heat and neuter the damn male if he isn't already making sure to keep them apart until then.. MALES don't go into heat as that is a FEMALE thing.

She has zero reason to be breed other thn for your pure selfishness.. You want a Maltese Poodle mutt when you move out? Go and ADOPT one as there's NO SHORTAGE of those types of mutts in shelters and rescues.

The fact that she came from mutt parents doesn't make it any damn better. Just makes you look like an even bigger fool for thinking it does.

The hell are you trying to breed your dogs for? You dont need pups from her. Get them neutered and spayed and rescue instead of trying to backyard breed, you absolute ******* idiot.

punish the dog when u see it. maybe with a water pistol. I remember I had a female dog and she went into heat. this dog from down the street liked to come by occasionally. anyway we had her desexed and the male dog kept coming down every day waiting for her to go on heat again. I presume your male dogs are desexed as this can cause problems.

Spay her quickly and neuter all your males and things will calm down. With unneutered males and a female in heat, you WILL have fights and dominance displayed between the male dogs.

It would seem the rational thing to do would be to have ALL of the dogs fixed (spayed or neutered). A male dog, like a male human is hardwired to have sex/mate. Male dogs will hump anything. If they encounter a female dog in heat, well....

Only you and your family know why you don't have this handled already. There really is no reason to have a dog "in tact" unless you are a breeder. Please consider this option.

*Update: so y’all can under this:: * this is a temporary living situation, i will not be living here for the rest of my life. When i move out, my mom wants to keep Gia (my dog) and live in her own place again & doesn’t wanna be lonely. My girl is a maltipoo & my friend has a male maltipoo. I want to breed them so i can keep one of her pups. Getting THE FEMALE DOG GIA SPAYED IS OUT OF THE QUESTION. That’s not gonna happen. Please stop telling me to do so bc that’s not gonna happen. 2. When i said he’s in heat, you know wth i mean i just wanted to say that instead of being a horny bastard. Shilo has ran to our neighbors backyard to mate with their dog several times and even ATTACKED GIA trying to mate with the other dog. Now that his attention is on Gia he wants to mate with her. Lastly, google has my back and told me to put Vapor rub on her tail to mask her scent. So getting her spayed didn’t even have to be an option. Thanks for attending my TedTalk.

GET HER SPAYED!!! As soon as this heat is over (actually in another couple of months so her repro. system has shut down). Male dogs don't have heats - they are pretty much ready to go from the age they become viable (around 8 months).

DO NOT look on castration as ending his amorous intentions - he won't be able to sire puppies but he may well mount and even tie with a willing b itch.

If you have an entire female and a number of entire males (or castrated even) you'll potentially have a bloodbath on your hands. Males fight to mate. Females fight to survive.

NO amount of 'telling off' will prevent a male from breeding. Nature prevails.

Right now, get him RIGHT AWAY FROM HER - behind two doors and crated or your still too young b itch will become pregnant and puppies should never have puppies. What is WRONG with people!
2018-10-26 15:31:01 UTC
Only female dogs come in heat. Male dogs are happy to oblige anytime. The only way to prevent unwanted pups is to spay/neuter both of them.

Oh yeah, sure = Vicks vapor rub!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Believe that (bull) and I will be glad to sell you the winning mega millions lottery ticket for a quick $100. You must NOT have ever paid any ATTENTION to all that DRUG dealers have TRIED, to throw off drug sniffing dogs or those looking for thumb drives in Porn cases. Now I am trying not to wet my pants.......

Your choice; not to have her fixed. A maltipoo is a mixed bred dog (not purebred). A small dog who can be ACCIDENTALLY be BRED - BY ANY DOG for 10-14 days of any heat cycle (and that is even MORE LIKELY) if you do NOT KNOW EXACTLY WHEN the next one, starts. If she gets bred by a slightly larger dog (or SEVERAL) if she pulls an "ESCAPE" (to GET BRED) - she WILL NOT SURVIVE having such a litter and it WILL KILL HER, unless she gets a GRAVID SPAY.

If she IS bred, you need to be AWARE that in all litters bred, the odds of DEATH of some of the litter =( including the mother) is up to 30% in all whelpings. If you are inexperienced, and this is a small dog, the ODDS of fatalities INCREASE.

She may also REQUIRE a C-section - being small. Ask your vet, but in most cases, a C-section WILL COST $2,500.00 (more than the cost of another maltipoo from another breeder). YOUR risk, for very litter REWARD. I'd get the males in your current household neutered.

Tell your aunt: intact males account for 75% of all dog bites, to humans. Your local shelter often has low cost spay & neuter clinics - call 'em an see when they have the next one for Shilo.
