I have been researching the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever. However, when it comes to finding breeders in the United States, I've only been able to find one in Oregon. I live in Kentucky.

I've looked on the AKC's website, and I've looked into Toller rescue, and I haven't been able to find ANY Tollers. How expensive are Tollers and can anyone suggest any breeders in the US?

Contact the Breeder Referral person for the US Toller club. She will send you a list of members of the club that have elected to be on the breeder's list. It is not a full list of all breeders in the US, but it is a good start. You can get her contact infomation from here: http://nsdtrc-usa.org/breeder_referral.htm

The breed is still small enough that there is not a breeder in every state. There is a breeder in Kentucky, but they may not have any plans for a litter at the moment. However, if they are near you, it would be a great opportunity to meet the breed in person. But, if you truly want a Toller be prepared to have to travel to go pick up your puppy.

You may also wish to join our community email list called Toller-L. You can search for "Toller-L" and get instructions on how to join.

Prices can vary from region to region but they generally start around $1200 and go up from there. I understand price is important, but I would not suggest making that your first question when you contact a breeder. It tends to be a turn off for the more responsible ones that are more interested in placing puppies into the right homes. Thankfully, most breeders chose their homes carefully and we do not have many Tollers in Rescue.

I would also suggest doing your homework on any breed you consider and making sure it is the right fit for you and your lifestyle. Nobody wants to have have to re-home a dog because it turned out to be different than what the purchaser was expecting. You are welcome to contact me and I will do my best to answer any questions you have on Tollers.

Great breed! I don't know the going price on well bred pups in the Toller community, but I would guess it will run around $1000.00, give or take a few hundred dollars.

Here are links to some reputable breeders:

From this list, they should be able to refer you on to other reputable breeders if they don't have available pups. Always ask for references, both from owners and peers. What other breeders have to say about their peers is important and will speak volumes about their reputation within the community.

Tollers are amazing dogs, and I am glad to see that someone is interested in this great breed.

Nova's are not the most common of dog breeds, and it can be hard to find a breeder. Really, you are lucky to find one in your country. Normally people who want the breed will have the dog flown in from overseas.

Sorry, but there really is no other answer to this problem. Thats why we need more Nova breeders!
