I hope with all my heart that a place like the Rainbow Bridge really exists. I know some folks say that dogs don't go to Heaven or whatnot....personally, a place where my dogs aren't welcome is NOT Heaven, and I don't want to be there. A sentient creature capable of joy, sadness, devotion and love....certainly deserves to have their place in the afterlife alongside their human friends.
I think it's a wonderful thought, to soothe the pain of losing a beloved pet....picture them in a better place, in their young, healthy body, playing with other dogs and spending their days doing whatever they loved best. And one day when they see their master approaching, they'll wag their whole body and run to greet him/her :)....
I only have one dog there, but I picture her with a group of doggy friends, playing and romping and basking in the sun. And I think when she sees me again, her eyes will light up and she'll do the Kidney Bean Dance (she's a Boxer- they wag their entire bodies and will do the cha-cha with their body curved in a kidney-bean shape, LOL)....
Another aspect of my personal belief, is similar to Native American beliefs- that our bodies come from the Earth and when we die, our bodies return to the Earth, but our energy, our "souls" that made up our essence don't go away. The law of physics says that energy cannot be created or destroyed- it just changes forms....so to me, it stands to reason that the energy within our bodies (soul, essence, spirit, or whatever name you give it) remains with us for all eternity.
It's a soothing thought, and helps me remember that my deceased loved ones (human and animal) are truly "here with me" at any given time :)....
hmmm, Deep philosophical musings from me, at 6:55 AM on a Tuesday....I must be getting ill, LOL :)
