Question:
Best Breed of Dog for Me?

I want to get a dog but I don't know what the best breed would be for me. Here are my criteria-
I don't want to have to go on runs with it or anything- I would to let it out in the morning and take it for a short walk at night and have it be ok with that- so low energy.
I want it to be excited to see me and somewhat playful but not so hyper that it has to play all the time.
I like furry dogs better than ones with short hair and don't mind brushing and washing them.
I don't care about size really but not too too big.
It has to be able to get along with cats because I have one.

Any suggestions on what a good dog would be for me?

First off Try your local adoption place.. they are way cheaper than buying from a breader and your saving a dogs life. I adopt all of my dogs and I pay $55 and they already have their shots, micro-chip, and are operated.

Puppys require a lot of attention.. try finding one thats over a year.

Do not go into any terrier bread.. those are all extremly energetic.

I would recommend getting a beagle.. they are more laid back and are a medium sized dog.

Goodluck!

Hi Alex! I love dogs and know quite a bit about them! And a breed of dog that i would recommend for you which is actually the same dog as me... is a Newfoundland! They are such amazing dogs, very loving and trust me there not to hyper either! They love being brushed and look very nice after a good wash! Mine always greets me with a wagging tail and some big kisses, the only down side is they are rather large. But once you look into there furry faces you will fall in love just like i did! good luck!

Maybe a small breed from the shelter. You can probably look online for a Chihuahua mix. I think you should get a Chihuahua. You can probably ask if it's good with cats. (Or you also could go buy a Chihuahua from a breeder but I don't recommend it.) Maybe a toy poodle, those are really cute. Good luck with you're new furry friend!

I would recommend either a corgi or a cocker spaniel. One of my friends has a corgi and it is the most mellow dog ever. I used to have a cocker spaniel too and he was really calm and so cute!

Animal Planet actually has this awesome site where you can take a quiz and it will tell you what dog you should get- One of the questions actually is "how often do you want to walk your dog" and one of the answers is "i want a couch potato dog" so it should be able to find you something!

Why not go to a shelter and get a mutt. They are usually good dogs and they need good homes. Plan on more than just a little walk. Dogs need exercise. If you don't want to take him out and walk you might consider is guinea pig.

I dont think a dog your describing exists, one that you dont need to walk or care for, but enjoys playing but not too much, a dog that loves baths, and one that likes cats. But a daschsund is a great choice low energy, lazy, long haired ones, and dont really enjoy walks that much. I have one and its kinda what you described.

If you have a shelter near you, you could actually "shop" for a dog. Most of the non-profit organizations rescue dogs and have a decent history on most of them. I know it sounds crazy but they have a "return policy" also. (in case it doesn't work out).

Try petfinder.com and find a shelter near you.

They'll also be in good health!!

i think maybe a Yorkie should fit u cause u dont have to take it to walks alot and it is alittle like human hair so when u brush itz fur it may fall alttle just like how human do! they eat around like 2 to 3 times a day

and they r so small some r smaler than ur palm! they r also cheap!

I would go with a keeshond. they are long haired, medium sized, and are not a high energy breed. It sounds like the perfect breed for u

All dogs need to be taken on a walk- 30minutes at least
