My puppy poops a lot?

I have a 4 and a half month old Labrador puppy and he poops a lot.

By that I mean, 6-8 times a day. I changed his diet three times, already (over a week long period) and a after a month I changed it again. He is currently on Canidae lamb and rice. I toned down the amount of food that I give him, which helped make his stool firmer. I think I was over feeding him. However, he still poops a lot, but significantly less each time.

Why does he poop so much, is it a problem? A sign of something? What should I do to tone down the amount of times he poops a day.

A lot of times if the quality of the food isn't that great, they will poop more, but it could be a lot of things. How much do you feed him per day? How big is he (weight?)? Are the poops normal or are they hard, or are they diarrhea? Make sure he doesn't have worms too. You should take him for a check up at the vet just to make sure he is doing well.

You caused this problem by changing food three times in one week. It takes at least a month for a dog to stabilize on a diet. You don't mention what your vet said, and whether the vet did testing for intestinal parasites, but this should be the first step!! All puppies poop a lot, so if his stools are firm, this is nothing to be concerned about.

You don't say how many times you feed him. My dogs eat breakfast and dinner. Some dogs only have dinner. The more times a day you feed him...the more he will have to poo. Although he is a pup...you should be feeding him puppy food. I only feed my dogs dry food. Once or twice a week I will treat my dachshund to some tuna...she LOVES cat food, but it's too fattening. My dogs go out 2-3 times a day. That is normal. Are you feeding your dog more than twice a day?
